Did anything like this ever happen to anyone? Seems like the cowl clips gave way and the air pushed the fender liner against the tire. I've since installed a new one but would hate for the same thing to happen twice. Any idea what might have caused this in the first place?

PS: This happened around 60.000km (car was bought new)

LOL umm that doesn't look normal.
ya think? 😆
Did you by chance hit something while driving home? Perhaps a raccoon decided to move into your front bumper and created an entry way through the fender liner hole.
No racoons where I live and I doubt I hit something...

Fender liner looks odd. Almost like a two piece liner. You must have drove quite a ways with it rubbing. It looks like a lot of clips are missing how many clips were actually pulled out/needed replaced?

Yeah I drove quite a bit before I could replace it .... about 10.000km. If memory serves well I had to replace about 3 mid sized clips and another 2 or 3 small ones (there are 3 different size clips there ... wtf).

Am I the only one wondering why it seems that when we see people report really
odd things with their cars, their almost never in the U.S?

Looks like you hit a rabbit or something of similar size. Any fur/brain matter/blood anywhere ?

Ok. However you definitely hit something, like, wood that stuck to the tire and got flung forward for example and you just didn't notice.

When you have the liner replaced, just ensure you have the right size fasteners and you should be good to go. (I had a fastener fail when removing my inner panel once and found that it could be easy to use the incorrect size, making it too loose. I had to shop for a replacement with the correct diameter and grip range.)

I read somewhere that this is a thing that happens at high speed To some cars. Air pressure pops the liner out And fender rubs on the tyre. guys replaced them with better fasteners.

I blame fun times on the autobahn.
