Car goes through 1 qt of oil every 1,000 miles if I drive it hard (but not racetrack - just spirited driving) and if I drive it normally, the consumption is a little less maybe 1 qt every 1,500-1,750 miles.

It has been consistent since day 1 and now I have 10,000 miles. My concern is if I get a new engine it wont have VIN stamped on it which will hurt resale.

It is fine. Ford says 500 miles per quart is normal.

I think each engine is different, but I would be a bit concerned if it burned that much. Mine is still at top level after a track day and 2000 miles... It was an easy track day in rain, but still, I did hit 8000 rpms at every lap...

Check and see if you collect much in the catch cans, and watch it carefully.
I would be concerned if engined burned 1quart per 500 miles.... If they would not agree to change it, I would get rid of the car.
This is also my concern in "upgrading" to an R, not sure what you engine wise. The one I have now is great, does not use any oil at all ....

So if the catch cans collect oil in consistent with how much dipstick shows, thats okay? But if the catch cans show only 2oz when dipstick says car needs 32, that indicates cylinder leak?

I went through two engines. One of them consume to court every hundred and seventy or so Miles. The other consumed oil a quart every 450. This is all normal driving. just make damn sure you check that oil every time you fill the tank. When mine started using oil it was all the sudden like something broke. If I hadn't been keeping my eye on it I could have easily run it completely out.

1.5 quarts in 9300 miles. I beat on my engine like it owes me money and a blowjob.
It's the only way...:headbang:
My R consumed nothing the first 1,400 miles and now with 2,250 on the clock it drank a whole quart. These engines have a mind of there own. Keep am eye in the oil pressure gauge and check it every other fill up.

Do you add oil before it gets down below the bottom mark on the dipstick?

Mine doesn't use any oil, unless it's sitting at the top mark on the dipstick. If it's completely full of oil, the level will go down until it's approximately midway down between the two marks on the dipstick. If I fill it, it will keep going down to that point. If I just leave it alone it will stay at the midway point until the next oil change.

That only puts you half quart low. And the owners supplement says not to add oil til it gets to the bottom mark of dipstick (which is one quart) I'd leave it alone.

14700 miles on mine and it is fairly consistent using 1 qt every 1000 miles i wouldnt worry about just check it periodically. i would only get concerned if the rate of consumption changed dramatically
