Throw headers and a CAI and you are close to 500+. Not too shabby. A little suspension work and good shoes and it’s no slouch. To think when my fox bodies made 300 HP to the wheels we were like kings.
Hahaha. Oh suspension and shoes is already done. I went way heavy on chassis/suspension/tires before power. It's still exciting every time I rev it to 7000+.

hey careful! opinions like that when expressed on m7g gets people (like me) banned.
If someone at Ford still has some good sense, they need to know exactly what we think of the S650.
They need to know what it takes for S550 owners to see the new car as an improvement, and they need to know how much they've missed the mark.

There's still a chance they could un-**** the new car when it's time for a facelift.

So far it looks like my S550 is a forever car, and nothing else will replace it.

I have to agree. I'm in a position where finances aren't the main issue here; it's the car itself!

I just can't bring myself to like it. I've tried. I really did but I just don't feel it.

I think someone said that the (paraphrasing) "Dork Horse is basically a purse for men. There is no real value other than saying you have a Dork Horse and are willing to pay crazy prices for the same car with a new badge".

A fully loaded Dark Horse Premium in Canada is like 90k. I have my S550 and all the mods, including the Super Charger, are only slightly more than that.

Once again, I can't say that I care.
There's nothing about that version that attracts the slightest bit of my interest. So no reason for me to visit the site, much less join...
2024 Mustamaro looks may contribute to why new s550 still almost full retail prices online.

This uaw strike is going to further hike up prices of new vehicles even more.

I think if you've never lost control of a sporty car, you probably drive in a pretty boring fashion. Now that I'm old I'm probably a little too cautious. It's been a couple years since I really scared myself.

I've lost it and spun a couple times in Mustangs. Both times were in the rain and in cars that were pre-ABS/traction control. I've marginally lost control and barely pulled it back in time more often than I can count - especially in Fox Mustangs. I've mostly just been lucky to never break anything or smash into anything/anyone.

Hopefully the owner is ok and will be satisfied with the repairs.

I really wanted to like the S650. If Ford could have just made the car even slightly lighter instead of significantly heavier, I might have gone for it. I like the S550, but they are a little big for me. If the weight didn't change but the Dark Horse could be had with a manual transaxle, that might have done it for me as well. I really love the idea of a Mustang with better weight balance. It's too bad Ford went to all the effort to set up the car for a transaxle and only a couple rich guys get one (and very few will get used hard).

Except it’s really not significantly heavier. I have not yet seen a video with a Dark Horse weighed vs a Mach 1.

I didn't watch your vid but C&D says the S650 PP1 GT is 69 lbs heavier than the last model at 3,947 lbs. C&D says the 2015 GT was 3,704 lbs. So, there's been a slow but steady weight gain and now the Mustang GT is near as makes no difference 2 tons.

Not really a sporty car weight. Rather than getting an inch longer and 3/4 of an inch taller, I just wish they could have shrunk the car a small amount. A couple inches would make a huge difference.

On CAT scale:
s650 base GT=3,740 lbs
s650 premium GT = 3,780lbs
2015 base GT = 3,780 lbs

The S650’s had the same amount of fuel, the 2015 had about 3-4 gallons more (Bill said about 1/4 tank in the S550 so the S650’s had to be close to E is my guess).

I get what you’re saying about the size overall though. They are big cars. With Ford reusing the S550 chassis for S650, there was no way it was going to be smaller unfortunately.

I'm surprised there could be so much variation car to car. I don't think the numbers you posted are correct. Do you think C&D's scales are inaccurate? Your S650 is 200 lbs lighter and your 2015 is 75 lbs heavier. I realize the PP1 is going to be heavier than the base GT, but 200 lbs seems extreme.

Frankly I trust C&D. If you tell me that you personally weighed all those cars on the same scale same day I would trust you too, but I don't trust some random YouTuber.

It’s fun to pop over and read them bitching about the performance numbers that have been posted. And how the S550 was tested in arctic air:)
Mine was tested in coastal Virginia, in May, and measured 418 lb-ft on a Dynojet. Stock.
I’m still scratching my head as to why S650s are showing torque numbers in the 300s.
Does my local dyno read high?
If so, why wouldn’t Ford send S650s to other people with optimistic test equipment?

It could be worse. A few years ago, Ford threatened to use the Explorer platform.
…And that was part of my decision to go ahead and buy a Mustang, and not wait for them to get any better.

There was some luck involved, but I will always be happy with the choice I made.

Not my cars, Bill from CJ Pony Parts took their 2 S650’s plus their base S550 to a CAT scale. He mentioned something about some kind of tow reading on the 2015 car so maybe that car is off a bit?

The speculation was they were going to use the CD6 platform to have the ability to do an AWD car at some point. Not sure if it was the EV push or just cost for redesigning a car on a ”new” platform that ultimately killed that.

The S550 refresh was rated 420 ft-lb by Ford, so your 418 sounds legit to me.

Someone in another thread suggested that the S650’s might have a break in limiter programmed in (similar to the C8 Vette) and that is holding these cars back on the dyno and in some of these street runs that we’re seeing. As low as some of these numbers that are popping up are, that seems like a very possible explanation. Most people I’ve seen or heard that have driven these cars say they feel fast (and faster than their previous S550) so who knows.

CAT scale? Like for commercial trucks and heavy equipment?
I would think that scale is made to measure weights at a higher order of magnitude than a Mustang, and is less likely to be accurate in the range we want.

Does CJ Pony Parts not know anyone with a corner weight scale?
If they weighed their cars that way, I'd be more satisfied with the accuracy and precision of their numbers.

...So, people could be testing their S650s prematurely, then having the break-in limiter switch off in time for their "butt dyno" testing?
If that's the case, someone needs to test their S650 with more miles on it, after they've gone "Woohoo, this is fast!"

It's also possible that the S650 feels fast due to having a better throttle map in the ECU.
