Hi - I recently traded my daughters 17 Ecoboost in for a 21 GT for her 21st Bday. As a result, she quickly had to learn how to drive a manual. It has the active exhaust as one of the options. One of the first thing she wants to do is, change the exhaust out to get a diff tone. With that being said, it seems the options for active exhaust are less than that of those without this option. Ideally, we would like to keep the active exhaust due to the quiet mode when starting in my neighborhood with some elderly neighbors. These same neighbors sent me cookies when I sold my Harley. However, if we went with a kit without the active exhaust option, does this cause any issues, CE lights, etc? I presume the answer is no. Sorry for all of the questions. The Coyote platform is foreign to me. I had 25 + fox bodies / SN 95's while growing up and built several of those, but as I have gotten older, I havent modded a coyote before. My current projects are restoring a 95 Eddie Bauer Bronco, almost done, then moving onto to putting a Coyote into a 67 F100 SWB with a roadster shop frame, etc.
Do most people just do an axle back kit? I dont think we will go the header route, so it would be a catback / axle back exhaust? I assume Borla is one of the more common routes people go? I know she nor I are fans of most Corsa's as they seem excessively loud. Do some people just leave the stock mufflers, and do a X pipe? Feel free to educate me as I am having to relearn all of this.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. Sorry for not making this more clear. For her Bday, I traded in the 17 Ecoboost for a 21 GT.

I've put an X-pipe and have active exhaust love the sound of it. For your GT I'd go with a H or X pipe lookup some vids to see which you better like
To confirm, this wont kick any CE lights, right? Also, does any particular brand have better fitment over another?

They will not, disconnecting the AE will generate an error "AE not available" But the car will learn & error will stop appearing.

Myself, I went the X-pipe route as I like the nasty angry sound. Roush axel backs the icing on the cake.

If you want, replace the suitcase first. If the sound is not loud enough add the axel backs.

Magnaflow catbacks and axle backs have an option for keeping the active exhaust valve if you want. I have no real world experience with them but from listening to youtube videos I would go that route if I change my exhaust. BUT those boys at Magnaflow know how to charge, those systems must be made of gold.

And good for you getting your daughter to learn to drive a manual.

Others have mentioned x-pipe and h-pipe. That would be my suggestion first. They change the sound (x-pipe is raspier than stock, h-pipe seems simply louder and a little deeper than stock to my ear). It's all personal preference. Steeda (and others) did a few vids on youtube so you can compare stock to x- and h-pipes back to back.

Alternatively Exhaust Addicts has a ton of videos on Mustang exhausts from MBRP, Magnaflow, etc.

Thanks for this!! I will let my daughter choose which one she wants. Next step will be to get rid of the ugly wheels that came with it.

Yea, the active exhaust axle backs are insanely priced. Regarding the manual, she had been bugging me about a manual for a bit. We knew we were getting her a diff car when her warranty was close to expiring. So, I said f it and got her a stick. Shes a good kid and deserves it. Her first time in bumper to bumper traffic, she questioned her decision, but she loves it.

I just had the Steeda H pipe installed yesterday and very happy with the results, just wish I didn't wait so long to do this mod...No issues with CEL and the AE still works like its supposed to.... NORMAL is about as loud as SPORT maybe just a bit louder...BTW Steeda has both the X & H-pipe on sale if you go that direction.

Congratulations . Nice bday gift. You could piece it together until you get the results you like. I would throw a x pipe on it. And see what you think. My daughter likes the sound of the x pipe better. I think just that might give you the results you're looking for. That's definitely going to wake it up. If you've done foxbodys in the late 90s i remember when Bassani introduced the x pipe for the fox and wow it sounded so bizarre at first but grew to like the euro sound when nobody had one. Good luck choosing. Tough to pull the trigger.

Just changing the resonator for an X pipe or H pipe makes a huge difference. If you want sound and looks (that was what I wanted, I got the Borla S type with Black chrome tips) then an Axle back is probably the cheapest option unless you get just slip on tips. I am a huge fan of Borla. Excellent quality and fitment, sounds great. Basically you get what you pay for :) I would stay active for sure, I love mine, it is really nice for starting on early mornings in quiet mode.
