how are the rs's clutches handling launching?

i know my old evo x and wrx's couldn't handle many launches without burning up the clutch or snapping the transmission.

So far so good. It launches so hard, it's amazing.

Yeah you can play with DFCO settings to modify the timing. Used to it in the LSx days.

It amazes me all the time that my Focus RS legit shoots flames on the shifts, and has of course the engineered in pops and burbles, and yet my even more raucous and powerful Mustang kinda has none of that going on. Not that it's bad or anything, just figured it's almost a part of modern cars now a days, re-engineering in a little "stank" along with the engineered piped in exhaust sounds. lol

I also get lots of cracks and pops off the X pipe and Roush system, oh adding the supercharger made it 10 times better.

The crackle and pops have a lot to do with cam timing and ignition. My ss 1le crackled and popped nicely with just muffler deletes.

My GTPP doesn't really do it at all, even with FBO. It is a little disappointing, since it is part of the excitement when driving a manual. But oh well.

With just the Roush AB and the stock suitcase mid pipe, I get a decent amount of deep pops between shifts. Nothing too loud as I think the midpipe muffles em, and I'm not sure exactly what the trick is... High RPM shifts? Or getting the car all nice and warmed up?

No flames of course.

not sure about flames, but my stock GT has burbles and pops. Muffled, yes... but it's there and i hear it.

My SRT-4 would do it once I removed the cat with the Stage 1 ECM/Injectors. Pretty sure it requires either straight through piping or muffler, no cat and excess fuel that gets ignited in the exhaust. Likely something that a tune could provide if you really wanted it.

Yep. It's pretty common on turbocharged cars. For whatever reason, not so much on naturally aspirated. My tuned + straight-piped GTI stage 2 would pop and gurgle like a catholic schoolgirl at a frat party.

Afterfire (which is, I think, what causes the sound and definitely the fireballs) is caused by extra fuel that leaves the cylinders and then ignites inside of the exhaust when it finally hits some hot air.

I'm guessing you'd need a high-flow or no catalytic converter in order for this to happen. Or a really aggressive fuel system that outperforms the closing of the throttle body so that extra fuel makes it into the exhaust system.

My GT crackles and pops on deceleration down a hill if I am just engine breaking. At really slow speeds - in a parking lot - it happens too. Nothing like I had with my turbocharged car, though.

They're GT cars. Grand Touring cars, for taking 2 people across the country at speed, in comfort.

Not really the type of vehicle for popping and flames.

Like the others in this thread with Roush ABs, I get tons of pop on deceleration. Whenever I downshift and coast, it crackles nice and good as the RPMS drop. Pretty much every single time. I have a V6 so there's that but one of the reasons why I went Roush is that the snap, crackle, and pop was so pronounced. I don't even think its a question of bolt ons. I think it just comes down to how your exhaust is set up.
