Is it just my R, or does the exhaust mode with baffles open change in tone? I don't mean gradual changes as you just get used to the exhaust. I mean noticeable, significant changes. When I first got the car, lots of pops and bangs on decel. About 3k miles ago, something happened during a downshift and I heard a distinct non-exhaust pop come from somewhere in the car, and the amount of decel drama decreased a lot, to the point where I brought it into service to check. Baffles function normally based on visual inspection, and the dealer said it'd be a costly and service-intensive process to dig into the electronics, so I skipped further inspection. Today, driving around I noticed that the noise in loud mode has softened again, this time during accel and decel - things just just even more muffled.

Car has 23k miles on it. Any thoughts?

Hard to say. Mine pops less once completely warmed up. I doubt the loud pop you heard was anything inside the exhaust.
Can you describe what you were doing when you heard the pop the first time?
Stock exhaust?
Any other issues with the car, does all the drive modes work?
Did they verify the valves fully open and fully close? I've heard of folks having issues with the valve not opening completely.

Yeah when I heard the pop, I was downshifting from 3rd to 2nd and the pop came when I re-engaged the clutch, almost simultaneously. Exhaust is stock and the only issue I've ever had was an inability to change modes (steering, suspension, exhaust) during a short drive which was solved with restarting the car, only happened one time.

The tech at my local dealer did a visual inspection and then showed me with the car parked and on the ground. It looked to me like the valves were definitely actuating but it wasn't bright enough to see if they were actually fully opening.
