Exhaust/Muffler question

Hello all- I am incredibly new to the Mustang world and new to owning newer model performance cars in general. Please be patient if don’t know the exact terminology. I’ve recently purchased a used 2018 GT 6speed. It only has 13,500 miles and I couldn’t pass it up. I’ve discovered the previous owner had the mufflers removed. There’s nothing but straight pipe all the way back from what I’m guessing is the catalytic converter where both exhaust pipes go it and then exit towards the front middle of the car. It’s loud. Super loud and has that loud humm all the time which I’m guessing is the drone sound. Just as an estimate, how much quieter would reinstalling mufflers be? 50%? More? Also, I’ve read about resonators, I’m guessing those were removed too. What do they look like and where would they be? Would I lose any performance adding back the mufflers? This is just a cruiser for me, no racing or anything like that. Thank you all in advance for any help and patience!

You're going to need a resonator after the cats (reduces droning noise and looks like a long metal suitcase) and the mufflers (you know what those look like). Performance aside, if you have straight pipes, you aren't going to enjoy driving like that and will likely garner the attention of a few boys in blue who will be more than happy to write you a "fix-it-ticket".

At the least expensive end of the scale, see if you can find someone selling or giving away a factory exhaust system. Or look into buying one of the many after market "cat-back" type exhaust setups. Lot's of info on the board about them. You should be able to narrow one down that will give you a nice exhaust tone.

Great idea on pictures. I snapped a few but as you know, it’s hard to get a good one as low as it is without lifting it. Are the resonators necessary or will mufflers only help? I’ve considered the catback full system but man they’re costly. I’m in Oklahoma so the boys in blue aren’t that strict but I still don’t want unneeded attention. Thanks again everyone

You have some type of resonator. Might not be factory, looks aftermarket, but from that angle it's hard to tell. Looks like all you need are mufflers.

Doesn't look like the stock resonator. Also has clamps to the pipe from the resonator - factory version would be fully welded all the way back.

Ahhh, I can make sense of that with the clamps vs welds. This is a ton of help for sure and appreciated. I intend to stop into the muffler shop locally and see about some mufflers w/tips installed would cost. I like some noise and rumble, especially on de-accelerating but it’s a bit too loud now. Guess I’m cashing in my “old man” card

Depending how quiet you want it. Regular turbo mufflers will be about like stock. Flowmaster super 60 are great choice too. There are generic flowmaster for cheaper price

I have the Ford by Borla ATTACK or something like that. It's not cheap but to me it's the best sounding exhaust for a DD. I personally can't stand all the straight piped S550's running around. Next thing you know there is going to be 5" coffee can's being used for tips to get a few more Db out of it.

Thanks everyone who took the time to help out. I had a pair of Borla mufflers with tips installed first thing this morning. Night and day different and much much more enjoyable. It will be a somewhat daily driver. With working from home and a 75 F100 short bed and an old beat up Ranger, I’m lucky enough to be able to park it some too. Thanks again!
