I have an '04 GT, my mufflers are welded and my midpipe is bolted to the manifolds and catback. On every after market exhaust I've seen on YouTube for the '11-'14 they've had the midpipe bolted to the manifold and the rest held together with clamps. Can anyone shed light on why they don't weld in the mufflers? Do the clamps hold THAT well? Do you have to get under the car to re-tighten them often? I like the design of bolting in the midpipe as well but i haven't seen any off-road modpipes that bolt in on each side.

Now Idk if the '15 GT models will be the same but I'm assuming they will. Thanks for any input.

I'm no expert, but what from what i've seen and heard, I would guess people bolt/clamp on their exhausts so that its easier to remove it later down the line. I've never had an aftermarked exhaust but if i ever did, i'd make sure to have it welded on.

People are always swapping and selling exhausts so i imagine thats why they go with clamps.

That's true I guess but idk I just think there's too many places for failure using clamps, you know?

Do they make after market off-road midpipes for '11-'14 that bolt up on both ends like the ones for the new edge? Anyone have that info?

It is just for ease of install. Not everyone has a welder at home or knows how to weld. It also allows you some adjust-ability to fit the exhaust around everything else so nothing rubs/hits. The clamps have worked just fine on my 01 mufflers and they have been on for something like 8 years. I am putting one on with clamps on my brother-in-laws 2014 mustang next week as well. As long as you clamp it correctly (it's really hard not to) it will last just fine.

Cool thanks my man. I was just worried about leaks more than anything else. You've had no issues? And also what's the setup on your 01

I have had no issues. I have a mac pro chamber and flowmaster catback. Usually the section of pipe closer to the headers will slip inside the next pipe and a little pressure from a clamp will make for a pretty good seal.

11-14 cars use a very efficient Ball-and-Socket joint which seals very well and is what the factory uses. It's quite a bit better than a standard slip-joint clamp which are also not bad atall in their own right. As the exhaust heats up, metal expands and over time both of these types of clamps tend to hold up pretty well.

I had a muffler delete done on the 12. They cut the mufflers out and welded in new pipe. Most shops will weld in mufflers cause it is quicker. Most people who do it at home will use the clamps. Clamps are quicker but it's all aboitwhatyouwant done.
