Engine blew up

One of my deciding factors of me trading-in the EB mustang was my friends’ EB F150 story. My friend told me that her F150 EB (non-tuned) engine has blown like mine, and it happened after warranty was expired. She was just driving it on a highway... I loved my EB mustang (premium) though… I could have gotten an extended warranty with the new engine if I wanted, but I don’t want to deal with this whole thing (which may not be happening) again.

I have been going thru these exact same thoughts plus I sold off some toys and planned to get a GT. I drove 4 now. Manual and auto. I just keep getting the feeling of the Gt being slow feeling under 3500 where my ecoboost pulls so good. Have you found it to lack torque. Do you know of anything to help. My area of driving just doesn't lend itself to many 4000 to 6500 runs.

I also thought about this. But I think I'm just gonna build the motor and be a unique ecoboost with 600hp and great highway ;) the GT is reliable and sounds amazing but in the long run, the price difference and lower insurance sway me to get some I beams, close the deck, and reinforce the motor some to use something like a 6062 and blow gt's up.

Will never compare to the hellion GT kit though..

Until you read about the issues the GTs are having. Don't go to the GT forum!!!!

Watch out for cylinder 8 getting hot, for example! :lol:

This is where I'm going, I believe (at least this hour).

I priced the new GT vert and the price is still around $42,000.00 (base cost without taxes)... my car was $34 out the door.... but now it is paid off.

If I trade my car, they won't offer crap for it (unless I maybe go to Car Max, where some have gotten ok deals). I could simply rebuild the engine for under 10k, much cheaper than to trade for a GT. Would be a fun project as well.

That 2020 EB is lurking though... can't wait to see what Ford does there.

My car is a base I got for 24k out the door,
Built engine is going to cost me $7k with shipping and core charge (I won't be sending my motor back) $2.3k for a Vargas stage 2+ and~ $1.5k Adams plug and play Aux fuel kit.
I have $2.5K my Map P1.5 kit with race core in the car now
so at the end of the day I'll have a 600hp car for~$38k. I'm fine with that. The dealer offered me a GT for $33k when I ordered my EB

I was under the same impression and also under the impression the motor is really like nothing else. A Monster. I convinced myself I wanted it even if it was gonna cost alot more. Then I drive it and keep waiting to be scared by the power. I expected gut wrenching torque. Unfortunately I expected too much. I do believe the newer Coyotes are more reliable then the ecoboost, BUT in the off chance something does happen and its not covered under warranty those motors are very expensive even for a used one. A few oil pump gear issues and that is a $1000 preventative cost. Probably only need if supercharging though. Everybody has there own reasons and emotions for wanting whatever they want and unfortunately for me the Coyote was not special enough. For the 10000 to 12000 more I need to put out over my Ecoboost I test drove an 05 GT with Cams, LTH's and a bunch of other stuff. It was more fun then the coyote and and I can get this whole other car for less then upgrading to the Coyote.

I got my base EB for $20.5k. Never considered a 5.0 because turbo 4s are much more fun for me.

It comes down to preference. There's no wrong choice of engine. For street driving you will rarely get the chance to use the power the stock EB has let alone the 435hp a GT has.

For drag racing, either engine can be built to get into the 9's. I suppose if you want lower than that you'll need a 5.0. For now. Maybe. It's not my realm of expertise.

In terms of reliability, it's hard to gauge what's an actual issue and what's not off internet forums. I take what I read here about ecoboom with a grain of salt.

I had a GT in the past and it was a lot of fun. I have an EB now and it's a lot of fun.

I helped build my friend's 8 second 2014. We street drove and raced it a good bit. Couldn't use anywhere near the 1300hp it had though.

These are my personal preference, but here are my thoughts.

I was thinking on getting rebuilt engine, but I was told that I need to provide an engine to the company for the build, and the whole process will take 6-8 weeks to complete the engine. If I understood correctly, the price would have been, new engine (about $4k) + cost of built ($6k-12k) + installation ($2k) + waiting time (car rental etc) for me. It was tempting but I could not wait for the new engine for that long…

If you ask me which one is more fun to drive as a daily driving car, I would say EB. Which one feels good? I would pick GT. When I go to restaurant or somewhere with my car, many people give me compliments about the sound my GT and how beautiful it is. It didn’t happened much when I had EB.
I liked my EB a lot, and I like my GT a lot. I like both of them.

Since I live in Florida and live in not a big city, my GT’s gas millage is not too bad, which I’m very happy with. I was a little worried about it. I’m not sure if this helps, but here are a comparison.

2007 V6 Convertible w/ tune (93 octane): 19-21 mpg
2015 EB Convertible w/ tune (93 octane): 22-24 mpg
2017 GT PP Coupe w/o tune (93 octane): 18-19 mpg

I get a lot of compliments on my EB. Probably because of the color/vinyl wrap combo.

And here's the weird part....I've gotten quite a few compliments on the exhaust.

The built engine thing does get complicated. I wish there was a cheap easy way to just pop some $1300 worth of rods and pistons and we would be pretty good to go. And I will admit there is a certain value I was willing to spend to just have a car that others respected instead of makes fun of. Like other s said, its great to have choices and mostly there are no wrong decisions. Personally I would love a v6 turbo in this car. I would also love to drive a tuned GT to see if maybe it would wake up the bottom to a point I would be content. The effortless torque the turbos make is what I've come to really enjoy.

Though not cheap, I just checked about a MAP bottom end with the closed deck, sleeved, I beam rods, good studs and reinforced Pistons with a NEW bottom and it was about 6500. That's assembled and 200-300 for shipping. If that's something someone can do themselves that's not a bad weekend job and cost effective vs the 10k or more I've seen
