Here is my update.

I have decided to trade in my EB, and I got a base GT. I was afraid that the EB engine may blow-up in the future. Btw, my (theirs now) EB is still at the dealership and waiting for a part... I know it's been over 3 weeks since I taked with dealership...

I talked with both sales and service person at the dealership last week, and I was able to get a pretty good trad-in value on the EB (about $2000 more than KBB trade-in value). And I got a good price on GT as well.

Here are some pictures of the blown engine and new engine.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions and help!

That's the route in taking in 2 years. 2018 GT. Eco is fun but now I want the feeling of a real stang with reliable power.

You know, thats around where the Mazda MZR 2.3T blows (well the ones i saw at least).

Not too much of a coincidence since they share the same base design. Ford supposedly strengthened this block, but im guessing theres still a weakness in this design.
The Mazda guys used to tell me that the engines really don't like "lugging" (high throttle, low rpm, high gear).

Ive always been skeptical of the use of aluminum in high boost application. Even if forged the fatigue properties of aluminum are really not that great. Iron blocks may be heavier but they are a helluva lot more robust in forged form, i really wish iron didnt fall out of favour so much these days.

Good move on the GT.

But, did you trade in the car with a blown motor and got 2k over KBB? Is that even possible?

I had to pay the fix, about $7K, for the EB. But, they allow me to trade in the EB, which was still in the shop at the dealership. The trade-in value they gave me was average KBB "good" price +$2K.

So essentially you saved yourself a 7k repair bill by moving up to the GT? If I'm reading that right then that is a hell of a deal!

If your EB trade in value was let's say 20k while it was running.. Then normally you would have to pay 7k in repair bills and then they will give you 20k for the trade.

That's a hell of a deal u got damn lol

They valued his trade and then subtracted the repair. They may have also worked the new car number to prevent him from being too upside down.

At a guess, they may also have used a goodwill from Ford, if he agreed to buy a new replacement.

No, it sounds like the OP still had to cough up $7k for the new engine.... Then he was able to work a deal to trade it while it's still there at the dealer getting repaired, where the dealer gave him $2k over KBB for the EB.

OP:
Correct us all and let us know the specifics...

He paid 7k to fix it and trade it in. Nothing throws me off about it. Dealer just saved him some time, that's it.

Damn, must have been a slow day for me!

Yeah, OP paid the cost to fix it and then the dealer gave him 2k on top of KBB for it.

I'm sorry for the confusion, everyone.
Cobra Jet is correct.
I had to paid $7K for the repair for the EB. KBB value was $19K, and dealership gave me $21K for the trade-in.

The 2k over bluebook value is throwing me off..

If bluebook for a running EB is 20k, then they gave the OP 22k for the car.. But what about the current condition of the car and the fact that it's not running.. Do they offer the OP 15k or don't look at the damage and give him flat out 22k?

If they gave the OP 22k as is, then that is a hell of a deal.. If they are making him pay the 7k, then they are really offering him 15k in general.

I'm confused as this is the first time ever someone has traded in their car while the motor is blown.
I know it was confusing. I traded in my EB as a "fixed" car when I bought GT, even though it was still broken at the time. I traded in my EB for $21K on Saturday, and then paid $7K for the repair following Wednesday.

Yes the net effect in your scenario would be a 15K trade in.
