Is there another way to open the fuel door in case it is stuck or broken as an emergency. Some cars have a string in the trunk you can pull what about the mustang.

That string is used on cars that have either locking or click in gas doors. Ours just opens and closes so there is no other factory way necessary. Now I guess in an emergency you could use something like this. Of course, I like Bair14's way too.

Id think a suction cup would work, like one used for unscrewing light bulbs, esp the large ceiling lights.itll grab the door and allow you to just pull on it

Joking aside, Fords shut lines are designed wide enough to get your fingers behind it ... :cwl:

I think the bottom line is none of us has ever been faced with this situation. The least intrusive method, which insures no damage, would to check to see if the fuel door opens when the low fuel warning light comes on. If it doesn't open, quickly trade the car in. I know this will work, in theory.

If the O/P is a new owner, my fuel door is 'push-to-unlatch', then manually open, then add 93 octane Shell or Chevron.

The fuel door doesn't lock, so you don't need anything to open it, except your fingernails, in case the plunger doesn't pop it out when pushed. The plunger doesn't even have a magnet, so it's easy to open, especially with the not-so-tight Ford tolerances :).
