LOL. You are obviously not a boat person. :-)
it happens that you're wrong :)
I own a wave runner and lunch it regularly from a couple of different ramps in my area here.
I use my wife's SUV to do so, not only because I don't like the look of a trailer pkg on a Stang: the ramps are step (thanks to the drought), always wet and with a lot of algae, etc...
For other light towing needs I can't see any issue, but again for water proximity I see a risk.
Last year they had to drag a car out of the lake here, complete fault of the driver I guess... but the clutch can be slippery when you dismount a jetski and your flip-flop are all soaked...

The new f150 is rated to tow what 12k pounds or so? Anyone want to take one out loaded down to 12k pounds for a trip and see how you fare?

No I rather drive around redlining my current car in 1st gear since my cars manual

Point being just because ford says something can tow x amount of weight doesn't mean it's ideal. I cringe at the thought of the creaking and other noises the mustang would surely make while towing a trailer. Not to mention the wear on all the other components (brakes, shocks, bushings, etc) while towing a trailer. I've towed my fair share of trailers and it's always my philosophy to have plenty of leeway with the towing capacity. My old truck is rated to tow 5k pounds. I've towed at least 4k with it and it definitely was not safe. It didn't have the braking power necessary for the extra weight.

I used to tow a boat with my GT (see Mike A's repost). Here in MN, quite a few boat ramps had steel mesh sheets laid down instead concrete. As I was trying to pull my boat and trailer up the ramp, I started to burn rubber on the rear as the wheels slipped on the mesh. So I got out and had my buddy do the driving. I went to the back to help push, to get the GT started up the ramp. My buddy gunned the engine and one mesh sheet completely broke loose and flew up into my arm and spun me around. I fell into the water, expecting to see my hand missing. I looked down and my titanium dive watch was completely split open. I only had a bad bruise on my wrist. Best $900 watch I ever had!

great and kind of scary story Tsunami.
BTW that can happen even when you put logs or branches under the wheels to get more traction as someone suggested.... well maybe not gunning would be a good suggestion too ;)

Anyhow the point is: logs or other stuff are a help for 'emergency' traction situation. If you have to use them all the time something is wrong: surface, slope, tires, driver, or ... the car.

Not really a good example, the Eco tows like a champ, but good point none the less. I've had my Eco loaded close to 10k, and that sob would still hold 6th in the foot hills in north Ms.

The 5.0 w/ it's lack of turbos would be screaming in fourth to do the same. That being said, towing that much destroys the stock springs and shocks. Towing capacities are only means of regulating the weight that can SAFELY be towed by a vehicle. Just because you can control and stop the load does not mean it will not be harmful to the vehicle used.

Lucky man - VERY lucky man. Reminds me of the time I was drilling a screw hole in ceramic tile and the drill bit broke, shot an inch past my eye and lodged itself into the wall. I will never do stupid things like that again.

I cant believe people actually tow with the Mustang, I didnt even know it was possible! My baby aint seeing that ever - my SUV is for the rare occasion I need to tow (never done it till now).

Well, I've had several 500-1k dollar beaters that were reliable. They're not that hard to find, and if you want to own a jet ski you should have some mechanical inclination... Literally one of the MOST unreliable toys.

If your priorities are having a jet ski, maybe you should've bought a sport truck like the tremor and not a sports car....
Sorry to hijack this thread.
But felt i should correct a myth that jetskis are unreliable.
I have used both of mine that i owned a lot.
Sold my trouble free kawasaki 15f after 5 years of regular use. It had received regular maintenanc, but the only actual failure was the original battery which i replaced.
My current jetski is the kawasaki ultra, going into its 4th year it to has required only a battery replacement and regular service.
The trailers have required more maintenance than the jetskis have.

I think I recall seeing somewhere that the V6 was rated to tow 1,000 pounds. If that is correct, I bet the EB is very similar. For my Bronco, automatics are rated to tow more weight than manuals, so probably the case here too.

EDIT 6/2/15: on page 178 of manual, all three engines are 'rated' for 1,000 lbs (regardless of stick vs auto). Kind of silly when Corolla and Yaris 4 cyls are rated for 1,500 lbs!
Yeah, all rated the same. Like an AT GT can only pull or stop a 1,000-pound trailer. But Ford obviously wants to discourage such behavior. Heck, our Escape has pulled 4,000 pounds easily enough.

Curious, what is the Escape 'rated' to tow? What engine does it have?
