around 240-250 to empty is what I normally see with in-town driving

Are you serious with this question?
You're using your gas faster, getting less and less MPGs. Why? Only you can tell us, it's how you're driving the car. And why did you mention tank capacity?

Think we have found the problem!
My guess is that your average MPG has been on the decline as well. The computer will average based on some formula using your lifetime and recent mileage. If you want a root cause as to why this keeps declining, I think I have found the problem:

All these comments make me feel better. My miles to empty on fill up is usually 376. Mostly hwy driving.

As others have said the computer keeps tracking of MPGs for Distance to E calculations separate from just the trip MPG. If you want to reset it you can disconnect the battery. Last time I had to disconnect the battery my DTE went to 350 when I filled up the next time, I had quite the good laugh.

All summer I was getting between 23.5 and 24 MPGs on my 82 mile round trip, mixed commute (showing 360+ to empty). Lately, with the cold and perhaps switch to winter gas, mileage has dropped 1 MPG average to 22.5 to 23 - same commute. Does run richer, longer in open-loop. 8K on the odo.
