My concern with the 2.3 stemmed from my own experience of getting awful mpg's (everyone keeps telling me my car is broken and I'm an idiot for not taking it back to the dealer, I'll take it back once it explodes.. Lol, it has an extended warranty) and having the car go into limp mode several times along with the carbon buildup issue regarding DI motors and the fact that this thing is so sensitive to fuel quality, I even go out of my way to get gas from only 1 gas station, I even try to use the same pump every time..

There is something wrong with your car, take it to the dealer and stop crying online. There are plenty of stock, mildly and highly modified EBMs out there running 100% fine. :doh:

New to the forums but have a question and want advice .

Don't wanna be captin obvious but ,As you know we are hearing sad stories of Ecoboosts blowing and some covered under warranty and some not

I have a 15 ecoboost and have parts Id like to install and also a COBB AP
But am really paranoid now to even install parts . Or the tune in that matter because I can always put stock parts back on but once PCM is flashed im aware they can tell .

My question is ..... Can you buy a spare pcm , tune that one and if somehow you go kaboom just put your factory one back on ? So it's still covered via warranty ?

These Ecoboost "boom" threads are ridiculous. I have 2 I4 GDI Turbos (2014 Hyundai 2.0t and 2015 Ford 2.3t) and ZERO problems. I love these I4 Turbos, especially the Mustang as it handles like a Porsche, gets the gas mileage of a Hyundai, looks like an exotic sports car (in PP form) without costing an arm and a leg and I can pack it with loads of stuff and head out on a vacation. My fully loaded ECO PP had an MSRP of 37k so I could have easily purchased a 5.0 Premium, or any sub 50k car including a Porsche Cayman, GT350 for 48k if ordered from Ford without the ridiculous markup. I went with the Eco PP so my wife could enjoy the car as well (she needs an auto).

Having said all that, I do not modify my cars at all so I don't have any concern about blowing my engine. The only mod I have ever done to any car I have ever owned (including Porsche, and Audi) is a drop in K&N air filter. If I wanted the fastest car on my block I would have bought a big V8 "look how fast I am" car.

Almost every thread with Ecoboost engine problems has been modified in some way which may have led to the problems. Of course there are UN-modified engine issues in every car including the GT350 and GT.

My advice to current and prospective 2.3t owners:

1.> Don't mess with your car if you can't afford to fix it.
2.> Don't buy an Ecoboost if you want a muscle car, buy a used Z06 or GT and get a tattoo of barb wire on your left bicep.
3.> Wait for Ford to come out with their tune so it is covered under warranty.
4.> Talk to a Ford service tech/manager about your concerns instead of posting nonsense on the Forums. :headbonk:

There is something wrong with your car, i rarely go below 160kph (!00 mph) on the autobahn because where i drive the most, between Frankfurt and Kaiserslautern is about 75% unlimited, 20,000 kilometers most of if full bolt ons and tuned, frequent trips above 160 mph and my average is 20.5 mpg.

Keep taking it to the dealer and lemon law it. A broken car is not good and it will not get better with age.

Don't believe the hype about the engines reliability. at this piont after the coyote was released there were more engine failures than the Eco has had

There may or may not be an issue.. I'm leaning towards not.. in either case I'm not too concerned as I will be trading this thing in, at the most 2 years maybe 3.. the stock warranty is 3 years 30-something thousand miles, I have an extended warranty from Ford, 5 years, 60,000 miles or something to that effect so it's not keeping me up at night.. I just can't wait to get my hands on a throaty V8.. Damn you insurance companies!! Till then, this thing went from toy to daily driver Lol.

I'm no longer looking to make it fast, mod it out or do anymore shenanigans in "Mexico".. I just enjoy driving it every now and then (when it's clean) and mostly use it to get from point A to point B. (Had it over 6, almost 7 months.. still havent broken 4k miles) It is a great looking car, and that's really what I enjoy about it the most at this time.

Ford sold about 10,000 Mustangs a month in 2015, about 25% of those were ecoboost or 30,000 for the year.

A few engine failures can be expected especially if they have been modded.

I still feel bad for those who have had the blown engines, hope you guys get back on your feet soon.

I believe it's 3 years 30 or 36,000 bumper to bumper.. mine is 5 years, 60,000 bumper to bumper. Thanks tho!

When your experiences differ so much from the majority then yes something is wrong with your car, go get it fixed instead of whining about how much you regret buying the car and how you can't wait to get another car. Your car is not working as intended by the manufacturer so your experience is skewed.

You said it.. the majority, but not all. I have talked to some guys here and a few I've met in person with pretty much similar experience, it's not like my car is falling apart. It runs fine, it's just not doing 0-60 in 5 seconds or getting 24mpg in the city. On the highway it easily exceeds the EPA estimate. Going into limp mode, I think that may have something to do with the MMR CAI.

Also, full disclosure.. my finance guy told me the factory warranty was 3 year 30k miles, and what he sold me was supposed to be a Ford extended warranty, 5 year 60k Bumper to Bumper, those where his words exactly.

Reading through my contract here, it's a Ford ESP: Premium Care 60 month, 60,000 mile service contract with $100 deductible... I'm not so sure this fucking thing is a bumper to bumper extended warranty.. Lol.. but oh well.. I got it anyway and if the powertrain is covered for 5yr/60k miles I'm good anyway... I wonder if I can cancel this fucking thing.. Lol.

Our 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0t gets about 25 mpg on average with 26k miles. Our Ecoboost with 3k miles gets 19 mpg average. This despite the fact that the Mustang has a better mpg rating than the Hyundai CUV. My 2012 Hyundai Genesis coupe 3.8 GT also started out under 20 mpg and eventually settled into 24-25 range after about 10k miles. The Santa Fe was also around 19 mpg until about 10k miles.

I expect the Mustang to also settle down eventually.

I cancelled my extended service contract after talking to my local dealer. They let me know that if I mod the car that most likely the claims would get denied. Got my money back in about a month.
The best part about upgrading the Mustang is having fun doing it and not worrying about what will happen later.
If the 4 banger goes, then it would be time for a V8 upgrade or a 3.5L V6 Ecoboost swap. No use buying a GT.
