Hey guys! For all those unaware,
I’m currently tuned on 93 by Lund
Catless headers
Full exhaust
Carbon intake
-
Essentially stock lol. Call it FBO whatever 😂
Got my hands on E85, planning within the week to get tuned by Wengerd for flex.
Was about to go boost but I’ve been hearing e85 and 10r80 is a mint combo.
Want to keep the car NA as long as I can.
Does e85 make a good difference?
Also is my car essentially maxed out (I know I could do manifold, tb, etc) but wanted to know if I’m missing anything I should add, that won’t destroy my wallet like boost.
thanks guys cheers!

Depends on how sensitive your butt dyno is calibrated. It's very noticeable to me in terms of throttle responsiveness and decent bump in performance (20-30hp).

Very noticeable difference between 93 and E85 tune when I was NA. The couple of times I had to switch back to 93 felt like I lost all the torque in the mid range and I had to rev the car up super high just to feel anything

It’s worth it for sure! If you can, ask the tuner for a Flex tune as well, so that you‘ll have the option of running straight E85, 93 or any combination of the two fuels. This would be very handy on a long road trip.

When I drove my car from Kansas to Florida I started out on a full tank of E85. When it was time to fill up, I found myself having to go way off the beaten path to find more E85. Not wanting to do that repeatedly for a 1300+ mile trip, I started pumping 93 into the tank and when I arrived in Florida, got right back on E85 because it was readily available all around me. I can say that I noticed a huge difference in how my car performed on 93 vs E85 with the Flex tune. The motor did not seem to be as smooth and it popped and backfired. It didn’t sound as crisp on 93 either.

What about e85 tune and a converter? Possibly a rear gear swap to3.55 if you don’t have them?

I would just save your money for boost. It is a noticeable gain for sure on e85, but you will want more. Buy once cry once... All the basic mods and tune to get maybe 50hp adds up to just getting a refurb kit from ESS or a Beefcake special and you now have 200hp and plenty of more room to grow.

Basically this lol. Luckily for me I didn't do any NA bolt on mods, just the 93/flex/E85 tune which costed 300 plus 350 for the SCTX4 device. Then when I went boost I just had to pay for another tune which was 170.

E85 isn't worth the hassle if you don't have a power adder. Unless you have easy access to E85 stations then go for it. I don't have any E85 station in my area so I have to travel. It's become a big pain for me.

Yep I'm glad to be off E85. There's none in Northern VA so I had to always go to a Royal Farms in Maryland about 30 mins away and fill up my 3 VP Racing jugs. Then anytime I wanted to go somewhere I'd have anxiety over running out of gas since I'd get 10 mpg :whew:

I didn't notice the e85 gains as much until i switched throttle bodies and CAI. I'm guessing i'm sitting around 600hp now on e85

Which tb did you go with? I heard throttle body gain is minimal and could cause idle issues but I could be wrong if you are having good results!

My mods are in my sig. I'm not tuned. On start up it will take my car a second to find it's idle but other than that, no issues at all.

E85 is 100% worth it. 12:1 compression V8 zinging to 7800rpm, all the octane you can ask for is not a bad thing, along with the slight cooling benefit.

These things have been on Flex for a decade now. Nothing new under the sun, and no real long-term issues to speak of.

Great midrange gains and 20-25hp up top. My car stock with no other mods other than a plug and play Flex tune from Livernois traps 118mph in 2400DA with a manual. Easy 3mph gain.

Don't over think it. Great bang for the buck. Great gains and the 5.0L has been factory flex in Trucks since it's inception 15 model years ago. Just change the oil every 3k on it to be safe.
