I'm in the process of running all the 93 out of my tank so I can switch over to E85 and PBD/NGAUGE tune and do the initial datalogging, etc. I stopped by what will be my local E85 watering hole and bought about a gallon's worth and took it home for some testing. I previously bought one of the RevX Ethanol test kit/bottle on Amazon (way overpriced). I took 2 separate samples and waited 5 minutes on the first test and then 30 minutes on the second test. Both tested to 85%. This will be my first experience with running E85.

Has anyone else used this test kit or similar? Are they close to accurate? Any better ways to test?

As long as you put the right amount of water and gas in there you should be fine. I use one similar but it reads from 0 all the way to 100%. They work good.

I did fill the water to the water line first before pouring in the E85. I even used my Zero Water filtered water for the tests. On the second test, I purposely put a hair more water and a hair less E85 to see if I could throw the test off majorly and it was right at the 85% line at the 5, 10, 15, and 30 minute marks.

I have and use that exact test kit. It's pretty basic, but it works.

Dont get to worked up over the alc content. PBD's tune as some variances in there to account for lower content when it does arrive. You can ask them and they will tell you the same thing. Alc content will dip in the winter for most states, is what it is. Personally i switched to Lund and now this is no longer a concern in any form.

I daily on the flex tune. The flex has greater tolerances for a wider range of overall ethanol content. Also i can mix any ratio of 93 or E85 and after the relearn its good to go, just dont go to WOT until it locks in.

Not bashing reputable tuners here, but lund is just overall better for my own goals.

What power do you get on that flex tune? Curious of the advantages.

Flex tune will make same peak hp as a e85 tune plus it has the flexibility of using whatever gas is available. E85 only tune will kick the timing in much earlier and harder. I personal leave my ethanol only tune loaded when ever possible. It's much more fun in my opinion. Plus I can have a blast with out taking up past 7k all day long with it.

Even if you drop to 65% you'll still be better off than 93.

A few people local to me have actual sensors put on their cars. They tested local E85 and it was 85%. But on the sensors it would read 60-65.

As said, flex and E85 have the same peak timing and same peak HP potential. At WOT, the tunes act identical with minimal changes between the two. The Flex is a bit less aggressive around town and normal driving, and adds the benefit of whatever gas you want to run just run. I have noticed the car starts easier on the E85R however.

On my first tank of E85 and it absolutely rips in Sport and Sport+ mode. I’m going to run thru this first tank and refill before doing my initial E85 logs for PBD. Can’t wait for Drag mode later this fall on ET Street Rs at the strip.
