I am doing a stock GT to the Performance Pack Brembo swap. And for some really odd reason these are becoming difficult to find, especially the left side dust shield.

Do you really need to use dust shields or not? I hear they are for heat protection but I don't track my car so again is it necessary to have? Thanks.

Keeps water, snow, mud (etc) off the rotors. The car is going to work without them but they’re a good idea, so find a replacement as soon as you can.

The PP came with 2 different size dust shields depending of the years
Because of the way the air is ducted to the rotors, the smaller, the better
And yes you can run without them. Not an issue at all. As a mater of fact my Viper came from the factory without shields

See that is what I was thinking, So the size is diffrent for the 15-17 than it is for the 18-20? I don't track my car heat shouldn't be a major issue. And I don't go through mud or snow in fact I don't think my car even knows what those two things are.

Thanks for the feed back.

15-17 have the little petal style shields as seen below.
The 18+ have full shields with a small duct for brake.cooling.

I see yeah that is a noticeable difference. Thanks for the pictures.

I still don't understand why only the left dust shield on the 18+ are pretty much out of stock across the country.

That has been holding me back as well. I have everything but the shield ready to go. I haven't crawled under there to look at it yet to see how it installs. Will I have to pull everything back off to install it when it arrives if I go ahead and make the switch now?

IIRC, installing the shield would be possible IF the retaining bolts can be accessed and thread in towards the rotor.
Take a.peek at your existing shield and see if the bolts are blocked by the rotor.

You have to take the rotors and calipers off to install/remove the dust shields.
Also, I have a 2018 PP1 and the shields are the smaller 15-17 ones. Not sure which submodel those larger ones come on.

Those larger shields I showed were from a 2018 PP1. bought them from an M6G member. there are no sub models that have Brembos.

Interesting. Not sure why two different 2018 PP1s came with different backing plates

Ford has an interesting history of changing parts and specifications midstream on their cars with no notification.
You should see what they do with wiring harnesses from month to month.........

still trying to figure out in which model year Ford replaced the dust shields on PP cars with the bigger ones. Some people have the smaller ones on MY18. Anyways the dust shields have been on national backorder since early March. I posted in the FB page and lucked out finding a set from another, though i paid a premium for them. Another guy who did the swap is still using his 14" dust shield and said they're working fine

The older ones have a gap in between right where the air reflector on the control arm is located. I don't see that on the newer one.

You ultimately want the smaller ones. You only need the "shield" portion next to the ball joints to protect against heat fatigue. Otherwise you want it as open as possible to get more air to the back of the rotors for cooling.

But like OP said, if you don't track or hard brake ever, they really aren't needed.
