Anyone ever experience wonky shifting in dragmode and only dragmode for the 2018+ 10r80?

Could be downshifting to the wrong gear or anything else that isn't normal? Couldnt find anything online about it.

Can you give more detail about what is "wonky"?

Having more information will greatly help us answer or guide you.

Say shifting into the wrong gears .. ie down shifting to second or 3rd from 7th at high speeds... or even downshifting to first at 30mph and having advanc trac kick in and lock up the rear breaks... Weird stuff like that

If you had a manual transmission and downshifted from a 7th gear at high speeds into “2nd or 3rd” - skipping everything in between, yes you would also experience loss of traction, idiot lights in dash and .... transmission abnormalities.

Why are you trying to downshift so quickly from high speeds to such low gearing?

I recommenced taking the car to the dealer. I don't think the transmission should skip gears when downshifting when decelerating.

I'm going out on a limb here and saying the trans is fine for now (luckily) and it's the driver mod that needs some adjusting. dropping from high gear at high speed/rpm to low gear at that same high speed/rpm is called a money shift and that is how you break transmission, the weird shit that happens is probably the trans trying to keep itself alive and not let you blow chunks of it all over the road.

The objective of Drag mode is to keep the RPMs as high as possible for the most available power. So yes, even if you're casually decelerating, it will drop to the lowest possible gear because it's anticipating that you're going to floor it.

See post.. 10R80.. not a manual

I know that - what I was trying to say is if you tried to do the same with a car that had a manual transmission - the reaction from the driver’s actions would be similar.

If your going a high rate of speed with a 10R80 and are in manual shift mode - you should be downshifting appropriately (and braking), not trying to quickly paddle shift down to such low gears IF the car is still at a higher decel rate.

Hope that makes better sense.

Maybe this thread with some 10R80 shift info will help:

Hey! Just wondering—did you ever get this issue resolved? I'm currently dealing with the same thing on my 10R80. It only happens in Drag Mode on the highway at around 60 mph in 7th gear, with the gas pedal held steady. Out of nowhere, it downshifts to 1st on its own.

Is your car tuned or stock? Guessing tuned.

Also, first gear going 60mph even with the 3.15 gears and a 28” tire is like 10,000rpm. There’s no way a downshift should be allowed even if the transmission shift schedule is all messed up in drag mode. If it does actually complete the shift your engine won’t be too happy.

Ess supercharged. Wengerd tuned. It doesn't complete the shift. It shows me it's shifting to 1st but it seems more like a slip. I'm thinking its a bad valve body at this point. It just started having this issue. I notice in sport the shift is got more rough.

This does not seem to be an issue, it's just the way drag mode is designed. As the name implies, it's for racing in a straight line accelerating from 1 through the gears or on the highway thus keeping you in the highest gear possible at all times. It's not really meant for you to be driving around normally.

Does this happen in any other mode?

A data log would tell us more.
