Drag Coefficient

Just heard back from Ford on my inquiries as to the drag coefficient of the 2015 Mustang. And I quote, "The information requested is considered proprietary in nature to the Ford Motor Company and is unavailable to the public." I'm quite surprised by that answer but o.k. Apparently reporting that the Fusion is .27 is not an issue however.

I contacted Ford service on the 4th of December. Heard nothing so I tried again on Monday. Then I tried again yesterday asking what the drag coefficient on me Ecoboost was. They replied with an explanation that listed three exciting factors that affect drag, aero curtains, launch control, and acceleration timer and a link to the Ford Mustang page, but still no number. When I pressed saying that a simple google inquiry gave me both the Camaro and Fusion figures I received the response I post above. I'm a car guy who likes to know numbers and specs on my car. it's too bad that I'm not allowed that simple information. Ford has been great up to now.

Based on my highway driving it has to be better, hell i m getting 26 mpg with 3.73 gears no tune no nothing. The trip computer said 26.7 mpg but hand calc was 26.

The funny thing about sporty cars is that they always have a higher coefficient of drag due to the body shape, air dams, wider tires, spoilers, etc...

Exactly. And a drag coefficient is just part of the equation.

Are you driving 45 MPH on the freeway?? My PP GT struggles to give me 19 MPG.

A friend of mine was present when Ford had the S550 in the Mercedes wind tunnel here a year or so ago, when I get a chance I will ask to see if he knows.

Edit: I stand corrected, my friend works at Mercedes but the testing was done at the Research Institute of Automotive Engineering and Vehicle Engines Stuttgart (FKFS) in Stuttgart, Germany. My friend was present during the testing.

Exactly. I'm not expecting to see class leading drag numbers, but I am curious what kind of number they got with this car. The exterior is amazing. In fact I just got back from driving in 40+ winds and it didn't faze this car in the slightest. Well done Ford!

I am sure it is improved. Aero feels great on the car. However it's still a big car with a big mouth ;)
