Does this seem like a reasonable quote?

There's a local shop that I've used for a long time and I trust them and the guy who owns it. I asked for a quote for some suspension work and thought it was quite high. Does this seem reasonable?

Install: BMR 763 Springs, Steeda Shocks and struts, Vertical Links, Cradle Lockout, Lower Control Arm Bearing kit: $1,540. Does not include alignment.
Total labor hours was 14.

Thanks, B.

That seems very high. Not really familiar with the lower control arm bearing kit but my buddy and I did the rest of that job in about 5 hours. Thats really him working and me BSing and drinking beer.

Also be sure to get the subframe alignment kit while you are in there.

That seems excessive.

That is five part installations. Assuming 2 hours each (being very generous) that is 10 hours of work. At a decent shop rate of $85 an hour that is only $850.

Some of these things go together. For instance springs/struts are the same effort. Lockout kit is going to be done during the suspension work since subframe needs to drop regardless.

You're being taken for a ride honestly. Ask them to spell out the exact labor time and come back to us.

All of that should take no more than 5-6 hours by a seasoned mechanic.

I thought so too. I figured the R&R on the control arms to replace the bearings would be high. Here's how it breaks down:
Springs/Shocks/Struts 6.0 hours
Control Arm R&R 4.0 hours
R&R Control Arm bearings 1.0 hours
Vertical Link 1.5 hours
Cradle Lockout 1.5 hours

Sounds high. I had the following installed minus alignment for $800. It was a full day job for the shop

Springs / Struts / Shocks / Sway bars / Endlinks/ Toe Links / Vertical links / Subframe brace / Subrame alignment kit

vertical links literally take 15 minutes, including getting the car in the air and wheels off. I wouldn't pay a shop more than 3 hours for the shocks/struts/springs. I don't know about the LCA bearing but I wouldn't expect a 4 hr job for that. Tell him to cut the quote in half

Thanks to all for verifying what I thought to be the case. I'll get some quotes elsewhere. It's a shame as I would like to give them my business. I don't mind paying a little more to do business with someone I trust. But, not that much more.

If you like them and their work ... it's at least worth having a conversation. Perhaps they just did some really shitty ballpark estimates not realizing the majority of these parts can be installed simultaneously. They aren't done one after another.

I'd push back a little. If they really are a good shop they'll hear you out and at least re-assess their estimates. Especially if you let them know you're happy with their work.

I just installed Ford Performance Track shocks and struts, BMR SP083 springs, TCA048 vertical links, and Cradle lockout CB005 in my garage with hand tools. It took me about an hour per side for the front, and about two hours per side for the rear. That was taking my time and checking my work. Shop quote seems excessive.
