Service advisor called me to say (changing out my ac compressor) "Per instructions, cut the belt". Fine, except they do not have another one in stock, and therefore my car is not done, and won't be until next week.

I dunno. Sounds a little fishy, if you have to cut it to get it off, how do you put a new one on?

Yes it has it's own belt. The service manual says to cut it off as thats just the easy way. I've rolled mine off and re-used it like any other belt I've touched in the past. If they insist on cutting it, I'm betting you can find one local as it's not special. Wonder if they'd let you hand deliver one you bought? Search Rock auto for p/n and see if you can cross reference it to something at Oriely's or Pep boys.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I'll let them replace it, I can drive my expedition over the weekend. How do you install it? It has no tensioner?

It does have it's own belt, it's a stretch belt so it has no tensioner. It has to be "stretched" or pryed on.

It's really not hard to get them off but it is a few seconds quicker to cut it. To install or remove it you rotate the crank and pry it on with a plastic pry tool. It's not a fun job. Some people also take the ac pulley bolt out and use a zip tie to pull it on.
