Sometimes when I'm either downshifting or upshifting into second gear there is an extreme amount of resistance while trying to get it into gear. I have to pull considerably harder on the shifter to get it into gear and it just feels so wrong...

There is also a slight whirring sound when im driving coming through from the shifter. I don't know what's up. Any insight would be very helpful. Thanks.

Yup, sometimes I'll notice it and pull back then try again. It usually happens when I'm commuting and shifting at <2K RPM.

It's just so odd, I've never had something like that in any of my other cars. It also seems random. It's not specific to any RPM it just sometimes is smooth as silk, while other times it takes a lot of effort. Weird.

Yea, it is not consistent nor does it happen every day. I just notice it more when I'm lazy shifting to/from work.

are you stock? aftermarket shifters pretty much eliminate this problem

More than stock but not bad. You could go with one of the polyurethane ones if you're sensitive to NVH.
This is one of those things where I would really like to hear it in someone else's car. I don't care as much about vibration in the shifter as much as noise.

one article I read said that downshifts loads up the syncs much more than an upshift. So you might be somewhat more aggressive in upshifts, but a downshift should always be minimal effort. If its not, then avoid doing that

Paul, even if I let go to try and re-shift it requires the same amount of effort. I get what you mean though. heh.
