I find it amusing that the last Dodge "Demon" was on a Dart and a Duster.
A little history;

The Plymouth Duster was originally planned to be the third generation Barracuda on the A-body platform until a decision was made that the Barracuda had to be able to except all engine variations and the name plate got shifted to the new E-body platform for 1970. Plymouth went ahead and released its new A-body as the Duster in 70.

The Duster was so successful that Dodge released their version as the Demon in 71. Dodge got so much grief over the Demon name from the Bible Belt they dropped the name after 2 years and the car became the Dart Sport.

Some one mentioned that the Duster was a mid size car. It was actually a compact, how times have changed.?d

In my opinion the name Demon is a good one. I know the history of its use, but I don't think that matters so much. I never thought Hellcat was a great name, but the car was good enough that it made the name. Now knowing that the Demon will be a hot rodded Hellcat - I think Demon is appropriate.

The A8 Hellcat runs a certified 10.8 on DR's....the Demon will have 315 DR's as optional tire choice and a drag suspension setting. With no power increase it will run 10's.

10 year old chasis? LOL at some of you grasping on ways to cut it down... Where you also critical of Ford having a solid rear axle? (Of course not)

Is there another car out there running these ET's at anywhere near this price point? It's a great time to be an enthusiast, not so good for fan bois

I think the thing is, is that we all love the power of the thing and how fast it is. I think the issue that most people have with their approach is, that it is not the ideal way to go after more speed.

I think it is clear that since we are on this forum, we all have a love of, or are at least interested in, a car that has power but also has handling and poise. The issue I see with the Hellcat is that it is near 4500 lbs, so it really is a one trick pony. Can you hustle it around a track? Sure. Would the majority of people interested in road courses prefer a car thats a 1000lbs lighter with even half the power? I would say so.

The thing is that it is easy to get more power out of an engine, very easy. It costs far less than engineering a lighter car. And considering the chassis is as old as it is, it isn't worth their time to really put an effort in to lighten it. I don't necessarily think people are cutting it down so much per se, but some I guess are a little disappointed that they aren't improving the car in the direction they hoped for. It doesn't need more power. It's always needed more tire, and less weight, and it would be perfect!

I hope with whatever they come out with next shifts the focus to a smaller, lighter vehicle with at least some interest shown in regards to handling prowess.

Not trying to tear down dodge. If they could harness a viper and a challenger together. I'd be a buyer again. I like the one trick pony idea, but it really is too simple to make a plethora of cars fast in a straight line. I think it does hit home for a lot of die hard Dodge fans and think the ADR could be a seller of 10,000 units, even at 80k a piece if they do it right. The wide body is another story. I don't think those will sell well at all, especially with the ADR available. Just like everyone else says it keeps things alive...or does it. Ford's fallen asleep with the GT500. I hope fiat sells the hell out of them and it takes a lot of ford customers with it. Ford's going the way of the hybrid and I think it's great, however i feel they are alienating the GT500 crowd. They would rather build super cars for 750 people in the spotlight than build 15,000 GT500s for those that aren't lime lighters. I see where their loyalties lye. I do like that fiat is running with this. Come on take some ford customers with, I beg you, maybe then it will open their eyes a bit.

Are you buyer for any of their performance cars currently, if so what are you getting, this year or next?

I don't understand why you bought a ford then. Is that why you were/are trying to sell? Should be fairly easy to dump the R. Maybe not with the recall.
If I could feel comfortable on the street in a viper and could live with the look, I'd be in a viper. That's not the case. That's why I'd love for dodge to bring a street livable track car with great power. I'd be a buyer, even if it was higher priced than an ACR. I'm hoping the zr1 hits it out of the park. I'm a buyer for that one.

Quickest or fastest almost never equates to "best". Best in a definable measure? Sure. Best from a subjective point of view, which as a consumer should be the only one that matters, almost never. I think the GT350/R is a better car than anything Dodge or Chevrolet have ever offered, regardless of whether they cars they do produce are quicker in a straight line or produce better lap times.

The ACR has gotten nothing but criticism in any subject area other than its on-track performance. Almost nobody has said that it was a good, or even fun, car for the road where we spend most of our time.

The Hellcat can dominate in a straight line, with DR's. IMO Dodge is looking and focusing on the "extreme" ends of the spectrum and doesn't offer anything in the middle ground. I hope they do come out with something for the segment I speak of, because it'll make the others produce better cars as competition as well :)

I should note that I am by no means a "Ford Fanboy". This is my first Ford, and will probably be the only Ford I ever buy as nothing else they sell has ever interested me.

I'm a car enthusiast... That's why I bought the R. Already had a couple Vipers and wanted to try something different. I really enjoy driving the GT350 and think it's more fun on the street than the Viper (as I've told many of my Viper friends).

I missed a couple track days due to the recall and lost some interest in the car waiting for the fix. Not much fun having a car you don't feel comfortable driving.

I did get it off the lift and started it this weekend... Which helped remind me how much fun it is. Still miss my Gen 5 and the 2 day Bondurant class (in a TA 2.0) didn't help. At the end of the day I have car ADD - things get swapped out pretty fast in my garage.
