2017 base model. I'm sure this can be found somewhere, but will the 2 usb ports charge the device as well as play it? How about when then car is off? I bought a cigar lighter charging adapter, but just would like to know.

Definitely charges while running. I'm pretty sure it does not charge once the car shuts down.

I use the port in the console. It only charges when the car is running and my iPhone has to be unlocked.

None of my iPhones have needed to be unlocked to charge in my 2013 GT, 2016 GT, or current 2019 GT.

I don't think I've ever checked the one in the console but the ipod that lives there stays charged. The one on the dash charges as long as the radio is on. So even with the ignition off it charges until the radio times out.

I have a USB stick with music in the console, and also a 12V to USB adapter to charge the phone in there too. Don't like crap laying around in my car, so the front USB port has a black cap, which makes it basically invisible, and the car looks clean :D. My wife can use that port when traveling, but asks you to connect to Apple CarPlay every time.

Thanks, I have an ipod plugged in the console and it never runs down, so must be charging if the car is running, but I'm going to be camping for a few days and don't want my phone to run down, so I guess I'll plug it in the 12v adapter over night.

I keep one of these in the trunk. Not this one exactly, it's just the first in line on an Amazon search for 12v jump pack...
Plenty of power to jump cars and most have usb charging ports and flashlights built in. Perfect for keeping stuff charged without running the risk of discharging the car battery.

The center armrest USB stays hot for 75 minutes - even after the car is completely turned off. It is programmable for more or less time in 1 second increments via FORSCAN:

12v Powerpoint Timeout (Default) BCM 726-39-01 : 1194 xxxx xxxx

I believe the exposed center stack USB is only powered when car is on/running.

Mine will keep it charged at whatever level it's at, but will not charge more than that.

Those are great items!

I keep something like the first one, the small charger/battery, in my carry-on, because even today, there are sometimes when an aircraft seat doesn’t have a USB charger, or difficulties finding one at an airport. Believe it or not.

The solar one, even better for camping, etc. (Though I’m old-school, and would rather ditch my smart phone / cell when getting some peace and quiet in the field. Ultimately, you should use a SAT Phone and ping GPS trackers for field: weather and survival, and not rely on cell - but I digress).

If you have access to your car, one of those combo battery packs and jump starters, as someone mentioned above, is a practical compromise and dual use for weekend charging and camping
