If you're ever going to step foot on a road course and you don't want to mod the car, yes get it.

If not, it's 99% a waste on the street for just putting around. Even the base suspension/brakes are good enough to have fun in some moderate twisties.
I agree. I have a base model only with nothing optional except the safety package. It's more than adequate for the driving I do (I don't track nor do crazy aggressive "twisty" stuff; I just want a car that has power enough to get me out of trouble and more fun than a sedan and looks cool). I especially love the gas mileage for such a heavy car with the power it has. It's a far cry from my old '71 Mach 1.

Ok, I am no expert and pretty new to the Mustang community, hough have wanted one for a long time. I was in a similar situation, rented an EcoBoost convertible on Oahu with my wife and got the semi-green light to purchase. Came home started building online. Found one at a nearby dealer with almost every option I wanted, GT Premium, magnaride, PP1, active exhaust, dark matter gray (and it’s auto for my wife). Only thing it didn’t have was the upgraded sound system.

longer story kind of shortened, I bought it and got a pretty good deal, way under msrp(due to 2024’s coming)

I would say that the PP1 and Magnaride are definitely worth it. Feels like it is glued to the ground and so much fun to drive. Active exhaust is awesome, no desire to go crazy with aftermarket exhaust systems. For a stock from the dealer it’s everything I could ask for.

I would like to take it to the track later on so will look into roll cage at some point.

Some little things, the PP1 wheels are a pain to clean, but I had them ceramic coated so much better now. As well I had the front end PPF’d, worth it.

if you can find what you like and it’s a good deal, get it.

I would get exactly like what your wife wants, without any consideration for yourself, with one proviso. Take the money you didn’t spend on the new car and get yourself a Fox body as a dedicated track car. Probably far more fun and cheap and cheerful to keep running. No nannies to interfere with your driving either.

So when I started looking for my car, I wanted MT, convertible, and the performance package. As others said, they are rare, but they are out there and I did find several. One was a color I really didn't want, two others were out of state and the cost to transport would have added even more to the already very steep price tag. I ended up with a California Special package car, not because I wanted that in particular, but because it was super clean one owner, with ultra-low mileage and it was priced much more attractively than the PP cars I was considering .

Obviously, as a convertible, I don't track my car, and I know I will never feel the difference in around town driving. I have no regrets, my car is a blast to drive and gets me more compliments than any other car I have owned, but I still sometime wonder if I should have looked a little longer. A convertible PP car would be that much more unusual and interesting.

So I have finally gotten the ok to purchase a mustang. Unfortunately, per the wife, it needs to be a convertible and auto so she can drive it.
Does not make me happy, but any way I can get one, I'll take it!
I have been looking for my specs: Auto, Active Exhaust, Performance Pack, Magna Ride and Digital Dash (401A). And her specs: Auto, Convertible, not a black exterior.

I have been having a hard time finding that package in a convertible. I guess the question is do I really need the performance package? Because of the convertible, I cannot hit the tracks around here without a roll bar anyway which I'm not going to do yet.
We are looking at 2020-2023. I can order a 2024 from the dealer, but getting up there in price, plus I do not want to wait until October.

Thoughts?
Here ya go……

I went with the Performance Package. New 2022 convertible. I've had it about 3 months. Love the car. I don't plan on tracking it. I enjoy the magnaride and active exhaust. Could I have bought something cheaper, yes. Do I NEED the Performance package, no. Did I WANT it, yep. Regrets, nope! The car is awesome. I had a hard time finding one. I didn't want to spend that much, but I found one less than 15 miles away. I had been looking on and off for several months. My wife told me if that's the you want get it, I did. Get the Performance package. The only thing I plan on doing is the Ford Performance cold air kit.

I noticed everyone mentioning the active exhaust. Is that part of the PP1 now because the PP1 between 2018 and 2021 PP1 was the following and the active exhaust was a stand alone option.

Here was the options:
The Performance Package adds stickier Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. It also includes added stopping power thanks to the Brembo six-piston brake calipers. Here’s a full list of this year’s Performance Package features:
  • 19” x 9” (front) and 19” x 9.5” (rear) Ebony Black painted aluminum wheels
  • 255/40R10 (front) and 275/40R19 (rear) summer tires
  • Brembo six-piston front brake calipers
  • Engine-spun aluminum instrument panel
  • Gauge pack
  • Heavy-duty front springs
  • K-brace
  • Larger radiator
  • Performance rear wing
  • Torsen differential with 3.73 axle ratio for manuals, 3.55 axle ratio for automatics
  • Unique chassis tuning
  • Unique stability control, EPAS, and ABS tuning
  • Upsized rear sway bar

Up until 2023 it is still an option (not sure about 2024)

Yes I know that ...but is it part of the performance package or an independent option like when I bought mine?

Independent of PP1. Not loke MagnaRide where you need PP1 to get it. You can get active exhaust without it.

It's dangerous to drive a car with a roll bar in it if you aren't wearing a helmet. Especially if you have no padding on the roll bar. I would encourage you to take the time to remove the bar between track events. I realize it's a pain to remove and reinstall, but that's what I do, even though I have roll bar padding on mine. I want to be as safe as possible, and you can't control what the other drivers do.
I will review with Watson. If so I'll need to find a performance shop as I'm not going through that pain after two times already.

Like the Watson bar. Wife likes the pictures of it. It's on my list of things I want at some point.
