hi all, new to the forums, so forgive me if this question is dumb or has been asked and answered before. ive got the 401a digital dash in my 21 gt premium, and noticed that the number of miles to empty i would have constantly changed. for example when i turned my car on it had 217 miles to empty, then when it was done warming up, it was at 208. on many occasions ive seen it jump up and down and i never know how many miles i actually have to empty, the only idea i have is the bar right under the number, which doesnt change, just the number does.
is this normal? if not, has anyone had this problem before
again forgive my lack of understanding behind it if the answer has already been stated somewhere
Thank you in advance🙏

it s somewhat normal because it doing an average to compute the fuel mileage and with the changes in driving or idling or stopping it or babying it or highway or city (you get the idea) that changes the averages for it computing distant to empty. Hope that was clear?

I often find I arrive after a 30 or 40 mile trip with more ''miles to empty '' than I did when I left home.

I often see differences like that myself, especially between driving modes. Subtle variations, here and there.

"Your vehicle calculates fuel economy figures through the trip computer average fuel function."
-- Page 159 of the 2022 Owners Manual

The car is constantly calculating fuel economy, and mile/km to empty. Switching to another mode (Normal to Track) should cause numbers to decrease. The same will happen when driving more aggressive than before. And the opposite will happen if those conditions return to "normal".

If the car is used, resetting the trip/fuel measurements via the on-screen menus will delete previous history. This could give an even more accurate reading. Search for keywords "fuel economy" in the Owners Manual.

Idling kills measured MPG.
Don't reset your trip computer, it will stabilize.
I never reset mine, it is a Mustang, I didn't buy it to get MPG.
That said, it did glitch once and reset both and a few other things I had set around 9K.
Actually agitated me. I like to see MPG over the lifetime. My Fusion was at 37.7 over it's 90k life..

Wait till u get on E85. On half gauge reading its already signaling low fuel range which can put anyone in panic mode (🫣) E85/Boosted. One wot and you get the "light"

It all depends on how you've been driving. Mine will go anywhere from 175-370 miles to E.

Oh no I get on it lol! Not reckless but ill do my hits here and there and that fuel gauge laughs right back.... I also think it picks up on the driving habits and goes based on that.. isn't that a feature as well?
