Hacking the digital dash to add custom gauges

Now that the s550 digital dash has been out for quite a while has anyone tried to mess with the digital dash to recode or re program it ? I have always wished ford lets people design and vote on gauge packs that could be downloaded. Well that never happened so has anyone tried to do anything like this ?

Maybe a CarPlay like app that interfaces with the obd to get additional info displayed cockpit style on the infotainment screen? Im also hoping for a radar detector interface with CarPlay. I think android has one. So much potential untapped.

There might be laws about what has to be displayed on an instrument cluster. So, liability wise, Ford, or any company might be leery to do this. Plus, the market is probably tiny.
