First post, long time lurker.

I placed a deposit at a high volume Ford dealership in December for a 2018 GT350R. The Ford Performance hotline and live chat have had the car on material hold, which they say has been due to tires. The hotline has confirmed that it's a valid order number and in their processing system. Still unscheduled.

Now comes the heartbreak. My dealer tells me this week that their Ford Rep says we will not get the allocation, and that allocations have been "completely balanced out" (whatever that means).

Now they are trying to sell me a Bullitt. This R was a very special purchase for me... does any of this sound normal? Am I screwed?

Thanks for any help/ commiseration.

No it's not normal. However you got duped. They sold you an allocation they didn't have or sold yours to someone else for more $. Just because an order is in the system does not mean it is allocated by ford.

That sucks and I would be screaming bloody murder starting with ford performance and then customer service. I would write letter after letter to expose what they did.

That sucks.

That really sucks. I would tell them the only substitute I would take would be a GT (not Mustang) at R price. Good Luck!

What Tom said. They knew in August if they had an allocation or not, and to drag you along for this long was B.S. What the don't know is when the allocation would be pulled and built. But they would have known if they had a verified allocation.

I had a deal for about a day for $2K over on an R, but that dealer called and confirmed what they were getting for 2018, and they found out ZERO R's, so I moved on. That was August. The dealer I ended up ordering from had a sheet from Ford showing what their allocation for 2018 was going to be (Sheet was dated August 2017 also). They knew they were getting 1 R and 3 GT350's.

Some dealers will take your order and hope that they end up with an allocation, ie, like in 2017 when the expected production numbers suddenly went up. They just string the potential buyer along hoping they get the sale.

Hey Tractor Junk .......I hear ya loud and clear :(

In January 2016, I put down a deposit on a Yellow Gt350R with OTT Black

Stripes and Black Roof, (figured it would be a close match to my SBY 2013 Boss).......the Ford dealer did not even know pricing yet, however

we wrote up a contract with price to be determined and we both signed it

Well after four months with no news :frusty: I called the dealer and asked what’s

happening, and he says “The Dealership owner only got one GT350R and he

decided to keep it for himself”........
.

Fast forward two years and in less than two months, I went from finding a dealer

who had an allocation, and made me a hell of a deal I might add and now in

approximately 2 weeks.......

my dream will finally come true......

So here’s what I would do.......Forget what happened completely, as best you

can, move on, what’s important now is finding a dealer who will sell you a Gt350R allocation as quick as possible, because that is the end goal here

put it behind you, get on the phone and or internet and contact as many Ford Dealers as you can

make it JOB1...... Is it too late for a 2018, I’m not sure,...... Thomster,

PP0001 and Muligan are guys that can point you in the right direction and hopefully help you to find and purchase your new Shelby!!!

Also worst case senario, you can hopefully order a 2019 Model

Year....

Good Luck..... God Bless ..... and Happy Easter !!!

Tractor Junk, Curious as to what model of R your after? Electronics or Base, tho the end of obtaining a new Base car has come & gone. Can give you a lead on a lightly used 17' Base.

Thanks for your candid responses. This isn't good business on their part.

Does Ford Performance have any pull related to this? I understand the catharsis of "raising hell" will some of these people, but at the end of the day I want my R! Very disappointed right now.

Thanks for your reply. The order was for an electronics package with the classic white/ blue color combination. I may end up having to be more flexible on the color combination, if necessary. They all look good to me.

Spencer - Just sent you a PM. I have a few leads on R models that may help, but not nothing in white / blue.

Best,
Chris

Balanced out means the final production schedule has been set. They know exactly how many more cars being built (and parts ie carbon fiber wheels ordered/scheduled) and to whom (dealership) that car is going to. All builds are planned and accounted for.

Note, I doubt it happened here... but on rare occassion real allocations can be lost. Near the end a shortage/delay occurs as to some part and production numbers then cut. Ford receives parts on a last minute system as cars are built. If they have learned that a supplier is going to come up short they cannot allow more time...the end of 2018 manufacturing is a hard set date.

sold my 2018 GT350 :(
Grapevine Price -> "Please Call". That means you need to be sitting down when they tell you the price.

OP, sounds like you got hosed. Hopefully it will work out for you. Keeping working it. From the time I first started talking to dealers and receiving the car will be 10 months. So patience is definitely needed. Good luck!
