So working around the engine bay last night I noticed this current sensor on one of the red cables coming from the fuse block. It's not plugged into anything.
Looks like something the service department or assembly line would use. Stuff like this would normally have a cap to keep the elements out if it was required for vehicle diagnostics by service techs. I would think the contacts would get corroded being exposed like that. So likely this do-dad is never used again? Your thoughts? View attachment 444621

I have one too, the sensor part is around one of the ground cables and it too is not connected to anything. Looking at the service manual schematics it appears to be for measuring the alternator charging current and is installed on the cable whether it is needed or not. As far as I can tell I have (or do not have) some option that does not use the sensor.

Is the end of your connector open or covered?

The connector is open and that is what started me looking into this, wondering what connector was hanging loose (none) or what option was not used. My background includes 20+ years of designing automotive-type wiring harnesses so I was surprised to see this connector just open.

Thanks for confirming. I might cover it up. But then again, I don't drive in the salt season so it will likely never be an issue.

Here ya go, seeing you have a 2019 S550:

I don’t know why the assembly line change was made... Maybe someone with more build knowledge can share what the functional difference is with an S550 having that part prior to the change and an S550 without it after the change...

Interesting, and that would explain it except my 2019 was built in early 2019. I guess Ford had some old cables with sensors on them and used them until they were gone.
