Aaargh.... Took the vent panel off, secured all the chrome rings and vent housings with electrical tape & foam tape. Rattle is still there. I guess I'll be doing a deeper dive this weekend.

Check just above the gauges/AC vents where the two dash parts meet up. While you or someone else is driving, put some pressure on it. You may find it's the two panels vibrating against each other. A strip of foam tape in the gap between the two edges should fix it.

I took my 2020 gt to dealer Thursday for underneath dash rattling. Come to find out it was 2 bolts on my steering column behind the brake booster that was loose. They said the bolts turned full 2 rounds until tight. That fixed my rattle.

It turned out to be the panel that covers the defroster vent. Hard to identify while driving, with the sound bouncing off the windshield, but I had a passenger in the car on Sunday that laid his hand on the panel while it was rattling like a MF, and the noise stopped. Specifically, the noise was coming from somewhere underneath where the clips on the panel insert into the holes in the dash. The noise goes away when you pull the panel upward out of its seated position, but even with the clips partially inserted, the rattle returned. Not sure if there's a way to remove that panel without dropping the dash or removing the windshield, but I couldn't get it off, so I had the pleasure of working underneath it with trim tools and a long screwdriver. After a couple of hours, I finally stuffed a hunk of rolled up double-sided foam tape in the correct position, forced the panel downward to smash it in place, and the rattle is gone. Nice design, Ford.

Yeah, I can confirm the long skinny defroster vent is also contributing to the rattle only on the passenger side. Now that I fixed the center dash trim from rattling, I could clearly hear this piece rattling too. I found that holding the vent down with my fingers wide apart would stop it. So I will try stuffing some 1/2" EPDM foam under it. Or do what this guy did (Defroster Vent Rattle) and pull the panel out to apply my usual noise abatement tactics of foam pads, and Tessa tape.

If you can get it out, please let me know how. That would've made life infinitely easier yesterday. Hint: From MANY experiments, I determined that the 2 clips (or the holes) closest to right-of-center, nearest the windshield were the culprits.

I'm going to try and do this without taking out the A -pillar trims. From the illustration, it looks like the defroster vent hooks under them at the ends. If so, the A-pillars have to come out first. Those things are a complete b*itch to re-install. I did it once when I changed out the tweeters and I swore (literally) I would never do that again. I will try lifting the vent with my trim tools at the center and getting some padding under there where the clips are like you said. Sounds like a plan.

I can definitely confirm you can remove that trim piece. I had a '19 with no issues but on my '20 that piece rattled/vibrated to hell especially on a hot day when I turned A/C on.

You have to remove the front panel, the speaker grate on top, and the side A-pillar covers to remove it. I pulled mine and felted it to the moon on all edges and contact points.

It's a bit tricky to snap back into place, I got a lump in my throat the first time I tried because it really seemed like it wouldn't go back and I was worried I really goofed. It just twists and sets back in with a little force.

I can confirm that it is fixable though, I definitely cured my rattle, and it's been over a year now.

Here is a post I made with some photos and details of how to get at and fix that defroster grate.

Another funny thing, I had seen a photo of someone who went through the same issue on a 2015, and the grate is the exact same. So go figure why some rattle so badly and others don't.

Guide on how to remove these pieces: https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/th...ve-this-trim-piece.100631/page-2#post-2227540
My '18 coupe didn't do it. '18 Convertible doesn't do it. First '17 V6 didn't do it. But this '17 V6 did it in spades.....until yesterday. :-) A section of my work parking lot is paved in cobblestone. Imagine the rattling. There are SO many uses for 3M double-sided foam tape. LOL

Okay guys - I had this same issue on a BRAND NEW stang. Was driving me insane, ended up being these metal tabs that support screws for the instrument cluster. If you have a trim kit, takes a few seconds to pull panels from both sides of dash and unscrew everything. I literally stuck a piece of paper between the plastic and the metal tab and noise went away.
