Custom license plate opinions wanted

The state of Minnesota added a new custom plate option this year which is white letters on a black background. It’s referred to as the “blackout” option. Iowa has had this blackout plate option for years. Maybe other states too.

Preferring the look of a black plate on my Kona Blue with black accent package Mustang, I opted for the blackout option. I asked for BLAKOUT as my 2nd choice and was told by the DMV that it is available. My first choice was not.

Thoughts on a blackout plate that reads BLAKOUT? I know it’s not super creative but I thought it was amusing if you know that the plate type is the blackout option.

To be clear, I didn’t want a custom plate because I’m vain. I simply liked the all black background over the standard MN white and powder blue plate.

Wanting the white on black is one thing. Putting BLAKOUT on it kind of elevates it...

Well, I had to put something on it and the numbers and letters of my existing plate are already taken .

I’m going somewhere with this topic but I’ll wait for more opinions. Thanks.

I love the black plates btw and will pay the $5 for one here once we get them next year. I will not be paying the $30/yr custom text fee though is what I meant.

can you just get the plate cheap without custom text? If not maybe “k0na20”

I also just did this and my plates showed up yesterday. I was getting black plates at the DMV and she said I could personalize them. I panicked and said "Ford 1". I think it may be Douchy but it matches the plates on the Chevelle my girlfriend grew up with that say "Chevy 1" and the plates on our classic mercury that say "Meteor1". By the time I walked out I was already regretting it but I'll put them on tonight.

I see people with the black plate but the DMV-assigned “3 characters-3 characters” so probably yes.

I briefly considered KONABLU but the car has a fair amount of black too.
