Cooled seats not cooling

With the quality of the cooling units they put in the seats, i think they were just an after thought "hey, why dont we put cooled seats in?". Im not sure how other cars do their cooled seats. They may tap right into the main AC system. These seats are stand-alone systems.

very few if any cars tap into the A/C that I can even think of. That'd be very expensive to run lines. The dash is easy because the engine is right behind it so the lines dont have to run very far at all except through the firewall.

I see complaints googling cooled seat issues generally in BMW and Mercedes boards too that the cooled seats work crappy and are better called vented than cooled.

I have a 2008 Toyota. One day, while on my knees cleaning the carpet in the back seat, I noticed a duct sticking out from under the front seat. It was an A/C duct! Never knew it was there for 7 years! If Toyota could design an air duct for one of the cheapest cars sold in 2008, I wonder why Ford found it impossible to design something that worked for a $30-40K sports car?

Almost all vehicles I've owned (and that's quite a few) with back seats have rear heat/AC ducts that blow out towards the rear from beneath the front seats. I haven't checked the Mustang but I doubt it does since the back seats are pretty much useless.

I just noticed this today. I wasn't sure if the seatbacks were supposed to cool or not since I just got my car on Friday, but it seemed like they should. The bottoms definitely were cooling but I felt nothing on the seatback.

I guess it is time to see my dealer to lodge the complaint.

Otherwise is Class Action time!!!

So out of no where my seat backs start cooling. For months nothing and today I turn on to cool my butt and I hear an odd never heard before fan coming from the seat backs and felt them and I can actually feel cool air probably 50% of the force of the seat bottom. Hope this keeps working. I have never heard fans turn on in the seat backs before today.

Like the rest of you I've had absolutely no luck in getting the seat backs to cool, but living in southern California during the summer the car is usually hot when I get into it. On my most recent trip to Vegas out of nowhere I actually felt the back of my seat cooling, it actually got cold to the touch.

Obviously nothing has changed with the hardware since I haven't been to Ford since getting the car. I have to assume that the seat back cooling is pretty much next to useless when the car's interior temp is already hot. During my trip I kept the climate control set to 70 and low and behold the backs actually cooled....

There's obviously still a problem here that needs to be addressed but just adding my experience to the mix.

Maybe we need to drive over a series of potholes with the hope that the impacts will shake loose whatever seems to retarding the seat back cooling? I had an old fan that had to be tapped on one of the blades to get it to run.

The dealer checked mine and it was all functional. It just didn't cool the backs.

I like the heated plastic idea but I tried a slightly modified cai design. I got 1 1/4" clear vinyl tubing from Lowes and am using Gorilla tape. With multiple strip sizes and the holes Gorilla tape lives up to its strength claims, hopefully mine stays on but time will tell. For now though, I am experiencing noticeable cooling. I might even wrap the tubing in insulation and am even considering some larger upholstery vents for the heat but if I don't have to go there i won't. Fingers crossed.

Well unfortunately mine only lasted 2 dates until the gorilla tape failed and peeled off due to too much heat also. Hopefully one of the other ideas people are trying works out and you share your success and designs with the rest of us.

Temperatures here dropped from 100-110 to 85-90. I can definitely tell the seats backs are cooling little bit with the lower cabin temperatures. But they're not much help at all when the car says it's 115 when you first get in it.

Ok, long trip yesterday to the Myrtle Beach Mustang week. About 3 hours seat time. Had the seats on max cool the entire way. First hour, bottoms worked great, occasionally I can feel the back cooling. Hour 2, nothing was cool. Not even the bottom. As I pulled into the parking garage, seats were blistering ass hot! Bottoms and backs.
On a high note, ever hear about a half dozen mustangs with performance exhaust all at once in a parking garage?

Be sure to address this with your Ford Dealer. Let me know if you’d like for me to escalate this as well.

Just wanted to add my name to the list. My car exhibits the same behavior everyone else is describing. You can never feel it cooling your back, but after running for a while, it does start to cook your back. I feel like maybe the engineers at Ford just mixed up the two words and decided it would be better to cook your back instead of cool it. Only one different letter. Maybe someone failed English? Who knows. Either way, they need to take care of the problem... Pretty ridiculous for a $40k+ car.
