I recently bought a 170° thermostat and air intake for my 2018 GT and I got the thermostat professionally installed (as i didn’t want coolant all over my driveway) at my nearest shop, which also happened to be a pretty much only hemi shop. I’m not sure exactly what coolant was in there to begin with but I know that the shop used genuine chemicals brand purple coolant and since then the coolant has burped just a little and it is now a little below the minimum line and I want to refill it but I don’t know what to use. I know the oem is motorcraft orange, and the pan that the worker used looked like it had orange coolant in it but he said that it just looked that way because the pan was dirty and the coolant was purple before he topped it off. I’ve tried finding similar experiences on the threads and online but I don’t know what to do. I definitely don’t want to accidentally ruin anything so I need some help. Thanks

I would check the coolant compatibility chart here:

https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/ford-motorcraft-coolant-spec-info.139849/

I can’t help you with what the Shop used vs. IF that was compatible with the Motorcraft Orange or not. If it were me, I would go back and ask to see the coolant bottles or coolant type they use and the specs on it to see if it mentions anywhere that it’s compatible (or not) with XYZ other coolant types. If that coolant they used was not compatible, they need to do a complete flush/fill for you…

The other thing I’ll touch on - why did you have them install a 170* stat?? Is the car on a tune? Is the car supercharged or turbo’d? If not, you wasted your money because installing any other stat than factory stock in an untuned EFI controlled engine will not have any benefits at all. The PCM will still operate on its designed parameters, the electric fan will still kick on/off at factory parameters, regardless if there is a 170* stat or not. If the stat is “too cool” there is more detrimental harm that can be done to the engine than any benefit. You can’t just replace a factory stat in a EFI controlled vehicle with a lower spec’d stat “just because everyone else does it” or like it’s a carb’d engine from 1966….

If you’re tuned N/A or tuned due to a Supercharger or Turbo and the tune is designed to have a lower stat - then ignore the above. If you are a stock Coyote on a stock tune, that 170* stat swap isn’t doing a thing.

I’ll definitely check that chart and the compatibility. The car is N/A but I am getting a tune in about 2-3 days from Wengerd Performance depending on when the Shipment arrives. I’m in LA so it was delayed b/c of the fire. but yeah, the car is getting an e85 tune and I’ve been told that it can be beneficial for the tune that I got to also get a thermostat.
