You're correct, but in this particular case the reason Ford has no issue with mixing is that both formulas aren't that different from each other, the biggest changes is the color of dye used.In this case I am sure that Ford has done or has had done the necessary testing to ensure compatibility between the coolants listed. I still would not recommend using this as an approval on all coolants. It also is a tip off on coolant marketing.
Just as you can mix different brands, viscosities, and even specs of engine oils (in an emergency, any oil is better than none) it is not recommended by any of the producers. I, for one, do not understand the reason for wanting to mix coolants or lubricants. The things that these products protect are far more expensive than the fluids used to protect them.
But, then again, I don't mix gin or vodka with my whiskey and could never come up with a good reason to do so. I would do without before adulterating good whiskey.
Thanks for the Ford letter on this, though.
I swapped my orange car to yellow (did two drain and fills), and it's all good.
