V6 & EB Convertible MPG's, what's yours?

(EB) Mileage not up to speed. 23/24 for combined mileage. Not pounding or nursing. Hope it will improve with a little time.
Please report your 1) Overall average MPG, 2) Your ≈ City/ Freeway driving %, 3) Your ≈ Top Up/ Top Down % :D, and 4) If from ECU or manually calculated.

I am very curious to hear real world average MPG for V6 (and EB, GT) Convertibles. I was hoping to beat my current (2000 Sebring, 2.5L V6) convertible's 22 avg MPG by 4-5 MPG. I drive 40% city/ 60% Frwy.

On a V6 thread, one guy who religiously calculated his V6 Coupe mpg's averaged 26-27. IIRC, his % was close to my 40%/60%. I am very curious what negative effect the wind resistance of the cloth top an it's bit less aerodynamic shape has on MPGs.

For those who drive most of the time top down, please note that. I'd guess top down would create more drag (way more compensated by the fun / exileration factor though!!! :D)

Last Fall, I ran some 2D aerodynamic computer simulations on the Mustang, both hardtop and convertible. Surprisingly, with the top up, the airflow was nearly as smooth as the hardtop. With the top down, the air flow wasn't too bad at lower speeds, but when the airflow reached 50+mph, there started to be noticeable 'blow back, forward from the back seats. Above 60 mph, there was significant pulsing of air flow into the interior and then over the rear.
This Spring, I plan to run a couple of smoke tracings with the top up and down, to see how close the real world flows agree with the simulations.

Very cool, I look forward to this smoke flow testing. :)

I am really hoping my Cotus 3/2 'Awaiting Shipment' translates to shipping by Fri. 3/6. I can't wait to start looking for rail car tracking data. Does Rachel have that info (I hope), or just my dealer.
Hey davekro,

Rachel and I get the info real time, when it occurs. I don't have any info though, until it changes statuses, if that's your question. I'm still showing that your Pony is "Awaiting Shipment," with an EDD of 3/24 (subject to change). Check back with me though, if you want another update. :)

are there supposed to be for standard mats?

I'm inspecting my convertible now. The plastic bag in the trunck only has two carpeted mats not four. Is that what you guys have seen it is correct.?

Body panel alignment: doors, trunk, bumpers, fenders and front fascia all look very good. The only issue is that in the center of the hood on the drivers side at the fender it is higher in the middle, a little lower at the back and almost touching the fender at the left front corner of the hood. Is actually a 'slight' paint abrasion on the fender from the hood contacting it. I will ask them to adjust the hood.

Yeah my hood lines don't follow the fender perfectly either. A little low towards the front but high in the middle. I messed with the height adjustment a little bit but it wasn't enough to alarm me.

Yes, I only got two carpeted mats. I did get the all-weather mats as an option and interestingly enough, those came with all 4. I did have to have the dealer get it to me later, because for some reason Ford didn't ship them with the car (even though it was on my window sticker and was ordered with the car, not as a dealer option). Oh well, I got them.

Curious, did you get the tonneau caps? We are all still waiting for those!

No Ton. caps in the truck. I'll ask at the parts department, but I doubt it. I'll let you know. No worries on those.

I still think I'll ask them to adjust the hood because that left front tip will abrade the fender and hood paid overtime. I hope they don't mar up the hood bolts too much, but I'm being picky ;)

I also ordered the all weather mats, there Are four of those. Parts guy said no toneau caps yet. He wasn't really aware of them, but he said in special stuff like that comes in they are tied to VINs and he would he would have known about them.

No big deal. As many have said we don't really need them and we know they'll get them mailed to us by ford when they become available.

EDIT: Both carpeted and All Weather mats are a disappointment. THey only cover the flat part of floor. They do not extend at all up the slope so your left foot will rest on the regular carpet . That is a WTF design, IMHO. I figure some material to put under the mats up the slope.

Have you occasionally heard clicking just before top is down all the way? THe first two times I dropped the top during my inspection at the dealer today at pickup, the passenger side hinge assembly seems to catch on the inner plastic(I'm guessing). It did not do it again after many retrys. Then when I was home tonight, i heard much lighter clicking (catching??) when top was about 90% down. Has anyone heard similar sounds and discovered the cause(s). Not a big concern, just curious on day ONE! :) :D:D

Yeah you probably saw how we are all supposedly getting the caps mailed to us directly, but we were told they were mailed out over a month ago and no one has seen them. Oh well, not the end of the world for me :)

Yeah I didn't even think too much about the A/W mats...I see what you mean though. Not a surprise for something factory. Probably could get something better from WeatherTech or someone that makes custom mats. I'm just glad the A/W mats have some style to it. Ford really didn't sell me on the 50th AP for several reasons, but the "custom carpeted mats" that came with that package looked identical to the plain jane mats I got in the regular premium.

No I haven't noticed this. I have noticed the radio will cut out when I first un-latch the roof latch, but that may be normal, I'm not sure. Just an observation :)
