Has anyone tried or use this?
I'm not a fan of leaving a handgun in the car but lately I've been to a couple of places where it's not possible to carry. I've considered a portable safe like LifePod but this seems interesting.

That isn't much more secure than the console it's self when locked.

You've seen, or used, one in person?
I'll admit I'm skeptical about them. But most thieves who break into cars are after a quick score. Hence, "smash and grab." This would provide a second layer of less easy.

It may or may not be more secure than the lock which comes with the vehicle, but a potential thief would have to at least pause, seeing something different than OEM, possibly thinking, it would be a quick easy job like they originally planned....and go elsewhere. Depends on the thief's frame of mind.

If I had to go somewhere where I could not carry, I would not take it. If they take the car, you gave them the gun too. A good crow bar would bust that right out.

But you can't always know where you won't be able to carry. That's kinda what prompted me to think about this. I've recently been a couple of places where I unexpectedly encountered metal detectors.
As to your last point, there aren't many safes that can't be defeated if you have the time and determination. It seems to me that a console safe would present as an empty vehicle hopefully getting a thief to look for greener pickings.

Yes, I've seen them in person. It literally only takes a butter knife or screw driver to pop it right open. They're junk!

That's unfortunate.
Thank you for the response.

Hos large of a handgun could it hold? Looks a bit puny to me. I don't have keychain guns.

Not sure of you’re asking OP or me about the one I shared but the one I shared will hold a full size handgun. I keep a g26 w/ 15rd mag and there’s space still

It might work for a P229.

I don’t have any full size for a pic comparison for you but here’s a g19 w/ red dot and a couple mags that fit in there fine for reference

I think it would work great with my S&W Governor. Could keep it and a box of .410s in it for hunting rattlers. I feel the knack, just pull to the side of the road and bag a few. I give them to my neighbors who make all kinds of trinkets and sell them at SASS Cowboy Fast Draw, and Wild Bunch meets. The meat is cooked. But I'm not eating it.
