My rear tires need to be replaced and nobody has pilot super sports in 305/35r19... my front tires are still at 6/32. I am considering putting a set of PS4’s in 325/30r19 on the back and calling it a day.

Thoughts?

If the better tires are in back, you're fine (within reason; wouldn't mix snows and summers, but PSS and PS4S are close enough in street grip). As a general rule, anytime there is a difference in tires - tread depth or tire model - you want more grip at the rear for safety reasons.

If you're tracking the car, get 4 matching tires.

TireRack says they are receiving a shipment of 305/35's this week. I've had mine on backorder since December.

PSS or PS4S in 305/35r19 next week?

I don’t track it, but I am going to be driving it across the country next week. Weather will determine whether I go the direct route or if I have to take 40 across. Hopefully Mother Nature cooperates and doesn’t decide to produce a cold snap or precipitation on the way.

My order is for 305/35ZR-19 MICHELIN PILOT SUPER SPORT SL. The shipment from Michelin has been delayed, delayed, delayed (originally supposed to be January).

I've been in weekly contact with TireRack since December on these, as I didn't want to mix tires. Now they have confirmed delivery to their warehouse is confirmed for Thursday March 5th. I'm sure it will take a few more days to turn it around to customers.

I don’t want to mix and match the tires either. According to the website, they would be here 21 March. I leave on the 12th. I don’t think I am going to have much choice.

You can always switch to 4 Pirelli tires as they are available if you just can't wait.

I'd rather run on spare donuts than comparable Pirelli tires. Overpriced. Under performing. Way too hard. Complete hot doo-doo.

For that use, PS4S in the back and PSS up front will be totally fine. You won't exceed grip limits in street driving on either tire, and they have comparable rain performance, AND you have the grippier tire in the rear so snap spins will not be an issue. It's not a worry at all.

SOMETIMES combing tires makes sense depdning on the application too. For a little bit, SCCA autox guys were putting RE71R's in the rear and BFGoodrich Rival S's up front. Rival S's had better heat resistance but the 71R's still gripped better as long as they were in their operating range.

Given the timing of my trip and the availability of tires, for my R I put on Michelin 4S in front and Conti on the rear. Their performance is very close and the car handles fine. Bonus, the Conti's fit better on the R than the Michelin.

LOL. For sure. I had Pirelli tires on my ‘15 Mustang GT and they were HOT garbage.

Thanks for the advice. I am going to call the last few remaining venders in my local area this morning and hope they have the 305/35r19 PSS tires available. If they don’t, I will start asking around about the PS4S.

Well, I got lucky. Discount Tire had a couple left in their east coast warehouse. They are being fedex’d out to Vegas by Tuesday next week.
