Howdie! Apologies if this was already answered somewhere else but quick search didn't pull anything GT500 specific up for myself.

After ~1 year of ownership it is time to clean the engine bay. I've seen a video on a regular mustang that stated that these days engine bays are pretty water resistant and as long as you don't get too close with the pressure washer to any components/connections/openings you should be fine.
But if that was true for the GT500 I wonder what the purpose of the rain tray is?
Ideally I'd just like to spray the bay down with simply green, wait 5 minutes and hose it off with the pressure washer but I am not sure that's smart with this car.

Any advice?

Thanks,

Ben

Maybe I am old school, but I honestly, I don't think using a pressure washer under the hood is smart for any car. I would use something like Chemical Guys Nonsense general purpose cleaner and a set of nylon brushes to get into cracks. Let sit for a few then wipe with old rags.

I wouldn't do it. Each time I wash the car, I use an air force master blaster to dry it. When I do, I blow all the dust out from under the hood.

I bought some degreasing wipes that I use on mine (you can get them anywhere). As long as it's not terrible, these work really well for general maintenance. I use a plastic cleaning rod that I'd use for a gun(the proper name escapes me), that has the slit you can slide a cloth/wipe through, to get to the tighter spots. I've seen people use a tooth brush, as well, to agitate tougher spots. Then I wipe everything down with an MF rag. I'm sure there's better methods but this takes 10 minutes and is simple.

A good all purpose cleaner in a spray bottle with some good detail brushes is generally sufficient. If you want a bit of foaming action, a pump sprayer works well. I’m not a fan of using pressure washers or any large volumes of water under the hood.

I sprayed the cleaning part on i did it kind of heavy and let it set for 15 minutes and i used a water hose for the rinsing just a medium spray but make sure to spray all of it off then part 2 spray it on make sure you cover everything in your engine bay ...you do have to run the engine for 15 minutes after so it drys ....look up the video on DDE web site

You can rinse with a pump sprayer. Minimal amount of water and better control of where it goes. I’ve not used DDE but several AP cleaners can just be wiped off. I rinse with a pump sprayer just to make sure there’s no residue left

Pressure washer is overkill, use a garden hose with shower head for overall and maybe the jet stream in specific areas.

OP follow this as a guide.

Pan is really good. Apex Auto Detail is another good channel. Brian explains everything really well and gives reason why he does and does not do certain things when detailing.
