Interested in thoughts on using a clay bar with a spray polish as the lubricant.

Done this few times when in a hurry on the (non-Mustang) family car and seems to work fine and saves a whole step in the process.

Legit life hack or short sighted laziness?

Using local Australian product, 'Lazy Wax' (appropriate!) spray wax and Meguiar's clay bar.

I've never heard of spray "Polish" but spray detailer will absolutely work provided the car is clean.

If you’re asking if by using a spray polish/detailer/wax as a protective coating while claying the answer is no. They are two different steps. Clay, polish, seal. Easy as 1, 2, 3.

I agree this is the correct way and how I do look after my Mustang.

But, this spray polish contains Carnauba wax so it provides the UV paint protection etc. and is quite 'slippery' to provide the lubricant for the clay. Feels much the same as when I use a proper spray detailer.

This is the stuff by Bowden's Own: Bowden's Own Lazy Wax

Michael: My thinking is, the detailer spray will lubricate the clay but that is all and of course, the car has to be squeaky clean. With detailer, you'd have to wipe it off and buff. Personally, I much prefer to use soapy water and dedicated clay lube then, wash the vehicle when finished. After that, a detail spray would be indicated.

Just FYI, OP is looking to eliminate steps 2 & 3 and combine steps 1 & 4.
Exactly. Not suggesting this for your show and shine entry, just as a short cut for the family hack.

Yeah I figured. Unfortunately claying produces marring in the paint. It needs to be followed up with a polish. You cant combine those steps

I'll out lazy you...... 😎
I used spray ceramic "Speed Shine" as lube, and a SYNTHETIC clay bar.
Pfft........
I'll leave the 3 day stuff to the "professionals".
I have other commitments.

Nothing wrong with that except you are leaving your car with little to no protection. Why bother to clay if you are not going to add some protection. I believe that Griots now has a ceramic spray on wax.

I'll check it out.
Is their stuff any good?
I just wanted the synthetic clay bar, the other product was free with a rebate.
I have mainly used Meguires.

What could possibly be easier than that last one?
So I didn't get any paint protection from the Girots ceramic Speed Shine? 🤷🏼‍♂️
And while you're here, I'm going to ceramic coat my new gloss black Forgestar cf5v wheels before they get mounted and balanced.
What would you recommend for them?
Something that I can do two coats in the same afternoon, preferably.
Thanks for your previous suggestions! 👍

clay hack... get some soapy water. Warm water and a good car wash solution. Wash down one panel with a wash mitt and make it real soapy. Dip clay into your bucket and use that for lubricant. Periodically dip clay in.

This came from a major wax mfg at a car show... saved me a $$$ of money in spray detailer lubricant.
