Car and Driver states that Chevy has announced performance figures for the C8 ZR1: 0-60 in 2.3 seconds, 1/4 mile in 9.6@150 mph. Chevy stated that the times occured on an unprepped drag strip running 93 octane.

That’s impressive. Be interesting to see if that’s what is actually seen in the real world.

What's an "unprepped drag strip"? Sounds like an oxymoron to me.

I suppose that means they didn't prep it the same day as the runs? Or would it mean they didn't prep it IMMEDIATELY prior to the runs? They waited like 10 or 15 minutes after prepping before the runs, maybe?

Anyway, it sounds like the ZR1 will be a beast and a crazy thrill ride for those that purchase one.

It means they didn't prep the surface like they would before an event or test and tune. Spraying all the glue down etc

Probably a dig at Dodge and the Demon
But you understand my point, right? Any drag strip surface has been prepped. Repeatedly. Prepped and prepped and prepped. Over and over. It's just a matter of how much time passed since the last prep. Probably not much if it's a drag strip that gets any use.

Yes, we all get that a mid engine car has more traction on launch than a front engine configuration.

Yes, probably significantly slower. But I'm sure it will still be relatively quick.

So where should they test it? A dirt road? Brand new asphalt? Concrete?

Probably faster.

Disclaimer: Chevrolet used the onboard 'Track Apps'

Let's see what happens when a private owner gets one, stick a drag pack on it, pulls the front sway bar and passenger seat, goes out to a track with a negative 2500 DA...

Will we ever see a U-Drag episode, ZR1 vs GTD?

My first suggestion would be to use the same "typical" asphalt surface they use to test every other car. This would mean no caveats are required to explain how they got better performance than the car mags and end users will get. The number wouldn't be quite as great, but it would also be a more honest representation of the typical performance.

Probably faster.
Seems like they weren't happy with the performance at their typical test surface, so they had to step up to a "non-prepped" 1/4 mile track.

Perhaps they wanted to get an accurate time at an actual drag strip instead of relying on a vbox or fifth wheel or whatever the magazines measure times with now

Could be, and there's a safety argument to be made as well.
