Did this problem happen right after an oil change? If so how many miles did you have, when this sound started to resonate.
I was asking 09jsw about his car.

I only noticed it after changing my oil. 1700 miles. It was sitting running for about 10 min then it started

Changed mine at 500 miles. FL-500 S filter, 5-20W Ford Motorcraft Full Synthetic. No noise!

I will say this...you said that you put in 8qts of oil. My GT has PP and it took
8 and a half qts of oil to top it off to the top of the dip stick hatch line mark.

That confused me until another member reminded me about the oil cooler that took up a half qt.

Could this be an issue? Is this the common denomanator? Has anyone else noticed that 8 qts doesn't fill it up completely? Just asking.

8qts puts mine about 3/4 of the way up the hashed part. Good enough and not too much .
Manual stated 8 which is less then the older coyote track pack I believe

What you're hearing (when you put the cam under the wheel area), isnt related to your oil change. The noise is more than likely coming from your trans. You just probably never noticed it, but this one time you idled the car down after the change you did. After a month of dealing with the dealer and replacing a ton of parts, the noise isnt as bad as it was, but its still there.

Want my recommendation? Keep driving it, but report it to your dealer so Ford can look into it, the noise is very avoidable, but VERY noticeable on cold starts and letting it idle down for a period of time. I heard a new GT PP with a similar sound too that was brand new. After driving the car, the noise subsides. I honestly think its break in related and over time itll just get better or go away completely.

Here is my thread if youre interested:

The second video in the thread is very simliar to what you are hearing I think.

On the other hand, if you do take it in, and the dealer repairs the possible issue, let us know!

inally had it diagnosed as a bad throw out bearing on the clutch.
That was me, but to be honest, it was a misdiagnoses by the dealer. The sound goes away with the slightest rev, so not TOB related. The RPMs jump slightly when clutching in , until the car has been driven.

Thanks man. I'll take it in when it warms up a little. Guess I'll hold off on installing my tune until I have it documented first.

:headbang: No prob, hoping to save some people some unneeded extended dealer visits. First time I heard it in mine I freaked out a bit, but it was WAY worse. As you can see in the thread they pretty much replaced everything, and the problem is still kinda there. So I think over time with many people reporting it, they may revise whatever part causing the noise , but it doesnt seem to affect performance or other cars entirely. My entire trans was sent back to Ford, so that may help too.

Next cold start you get, take a vid. Youll probably notice no noises, until your RPMs drop to the lowest point which is 600 , the noises tend to start once the Cylinder Head temp is around 170ish and the oil temp reaches normal (which is the same time the idle drops). Any slight rev above that, it sounds normal. Im willing to bet, a tune that raises the idle just a bit to like 800 youll never hear a peep from the car. 600 seems a bit slow to me, my S197 idled near 1000.

The hash marks on dipsticks are not exact. Add 8 quarts if that's what the manual says. the next day after the car was driven around the block, when engine is ice cold, slowly remove the dipstick and make a note of the new "full" line that represents 8 quarts. So long as you know you poured 8 quarts, then all is well.

"The hatch marks on the dipstick are not exact" where did that information come from? That makes no sense to me...why even bother then?

Another member pointed out that the PP's have the oil cooler and thats where the extra 1/2 Qt. goes.

This is bad information . All 2015 v8s have an oil cooler. The s197s were as mentioned above.

Which parts bad...about the Dip stick being inaccurate? Or the 197's?

Please...a bit more info if you would.
The oil cooler part. Track pack s197s had a larger oil capacity. All 2015 v8s have the same oil cap. Book says 8qts I believe . I put 8 in my car and it's perfect.
