Did you ever foresee Ford giving us a 662HP production Mustang? Be honest. I know I didn't... just sayin'. :) Anything's possible.

That being said, I do think the line is going to have to be drawn somewhere, soon, if it has not been already. This horsepower arms race obviously cannot continue, and Dodge may very well hold the bragging rights indefinitely... but unfortunately for them, numbers on paper don't mean much come race day. ;)
It will be fun to look forward to see what Ford may counter with in the future. I won't be able to afford it new of course but it is fun to dream. Besides maybe I can land a used one someday after they depreciate a few years.

What gets me is the skinny rubber under the rear of a 707 HP Hellcat. It needs 305 width rubber minimum.

I'm sorry to and appreciate the apology and explanation.

Wasn't a one up just a "if you want to really impress smash the 1100 HP mark" then I'd have my jaw on the floor lol
No problem, understood. I don't mind admitting I'm wrong at times. ;)

1100 is absolutely jaw dropping but the simple fact that from the factory you can purchase a 707 HP vehicle with FULL WARRANTY is more impressive in my book. Hence that old apples to apples statement. Throw money at a car or someone to build it and how fast do you want to go becomes how much do you want to spend.

Again I'll say its fun to dream but my wallet won't allow my to play in that rarified air of 650 plus HP factory vehicles. (Unless I win the lotto!!!)

These truly are the "good old days" of horsepower right now. Just wish I could afford some of these ultra high HP super cars. :)

Grape vine on ChallengerTalk is saying the Red Key (707 HP) might void the powertrain warranty.

Black Key (~500 HP) will be the normal tune.

Wondering if they will go the route of line lock and void it if it's used to race or just using the Red Key at all.

I thought I saw that as well. I lurk over there for information. Seems dumb if you ask me but I suppose if you can afford a $70K plus car you can afford to blow it up I guess.

I suppose if I roll up on one at a light in my 2015 GT I need to ask them what color key they have in the ignition to see if I have a chance. :D

It's a nice send off to a cool car and will make Dodge plenty of money. It will be more interesting to see how Chevy and Dodge respond in their next cars to the S550.

There is a reason AMG cars are coming standard with AWD and the M division is considering the same. Unless you ride around on drag radials a fair amount of the power is wasted.

I have a feeling the red key will be the one used by most owners. When I had my Boss I used the track key almost exclusively.

I could see them do what Ford did with the Boss. When using the Red Key the power train warranty is 3/36k instead of the 5/100k they currently offer.

While the 15 GT isn't supposed to compete with this car, I hope that Ford understands they need to bring their A game performance wise. Even more so not having a higher performance SE for at least a year. Fiat and GM aren't standing still.

Question. How much of a HP increase does the Boss key provide? And how noticeable is the impact on gas mileage?

I'm wondering how bad the MPG will drop in the Hellcat with the track key.

Thanks [emoji106]

Hmm 200 HP increase might start hurting at the pump lol
I don't like anyone buying a Hellcat is worried about MPG. :)

You never know on those Challenger forums 90% of Automatic purchasers justify it due to MDS....even the SRT guys. Funny thing is the manual still gets better mileage then Cylinder Deactivation.

I thought I'd use the red key all the time, but the engine braking in traffic was a bit much. As intended I saved mine for track days thereafter.

I'd cry everytime I would fill the hellcat up. But I guess you can't be worried about that if you can afford it.

An interesting quote from this article from Autoblog.com:

"If the Hellcat ends up tipping the scales with the same heft as the 2014 Challenger SRT 392, that's 4,231 pounds, it would still finish just below the Mustang GT500 with 5.984 pounds per pony. In fact, the Hellcat would have to lose more than a hundred pounds versus the existing car to best the Mustang. "

http://www.autoblog.com/2014/07/02/best-car-power-to-weight-ratios-feature/

Should be some interesting races going forward!

Also thumbs up to Ford for being at the top of the HP/Weight in each of those lists!
