Following here. I took my car out of storage this weekend because we had freak 65* days and I had an oil change done prior to storage around Thanksgiving and after getting some seat time it's ticking like hell so I ordered some Ceratec which has worked for me in the past. Might just wait until spring to put it in though since I don't think I'll drive it much again until then. No point in having it sit in there with no use.

I think the way to check it could be by inserting some compact usb camera with built in light in oil drain and checking if there's anything substantial in the oil pan left after old oil drain.

But well used ceratec gets discolored and is not distinct from dirty oil.

I'd like to reduce cetatec use to sime minimum because of potential sediment. Or maybe have some oil only run once in a while. but tick scares me.

^^^After 5,000mi using QSUD and Ceratec, the oil comes out dark brown, but I can still see the light colored Ceratec swirling around in the dark brown oil. Weird stuff.

or.... save some used motor oil with ceratec and use it for your experiment. Maybe I'll save a little and pour in a small bottle then see what happens in awhile .

So stupid question don't get mad im being serious here not trolling. What does this matter? I mean this is suppose to bond to metal parts what does it matter if what doesn't bond falls out? doesn't it just get mixed back up again once you start engine? The protection is on the metal not in the oil. and from what I read one treatment is good for 50k miles? so it's still there on metal even after you change oil. All I know is I put a bottle in my car and it runs smooth and every single little tick and ratle is now gone :)
We'll, there have been some threads on other forums where someone complained about sludge build up in an oil pan of a different engine a few years ago. He made the assertion it was Ceratec that had fallen out and settled in the pan to the point where it would be a problem by clogging the oil pickup tube, causing a loss of oil pressure.
He also made the assertion it could then potentially clog small oil passages, thus starving other areas of the engine.
When I get around to it, I intend to see if enough solid hBn material settles into a sludge at the bottom of my little experiment to see if it could be a potential problem. Or if perhaps he was just blowing some hot air for having a dirty engine using crap oil, and searching for a reason to blame it on something other than his own lack of proper maintenance.

I personally never heard of anyone complaining of this in the hundreds of reviews I've read on Amazon, and also users on BITOG. This particular complaint seemed like an abnormailty, but I wanted to try this anyway, simply out of curiosity.

Update: Well, I found out something interesting. I poured out the oil today after doing an oil change on my daughters car. Not only after 1 month and roughly 10 days, it definitely settles and sticks to the bottom of this glass jar.

Not only did it stick, but after adding 1/2jar of new oil, I shook it vigorously for 3 minutes to try and get the sediment to mix in. It wouldn't. It stayed stuck to the bottom of the jar as the pics show. This makes me wonder if I should be adding this every oil change to subdue the typewriter tick.

yeah... if it accumulates this way it definitely makes sense to reduce dosage each time, or, even skip it.

On a parallel note - isn't it cetatec's task to stick/embed into metal surfaces?

Yes, it is...but to stick to the bottom of a smooth glass jar? Wow!

I wonder if the results would be different if it was heated to like 190 or w.e oil gets to

I forgot, what was your story of not adding ceratec and still not getting tick? Did it come back upon second oil change?
It came back but I switched to 0w30 instead of 5w20 so I dont know if that was why. Ive added ceratec every oil change now

PUP 5w-30 and call it a day.
Did that. Wasn't any better than 5w20. In fact it was noisier overall, and ticked even louder.

I switched to QSUD 5w30, and it does run a little quieter and smoother than PUP, even without Ceratec. Still ticks though, but only goes away with Ceratec. And even then on occasion I hear a slight tick.
