Some of us (me included) have ceratec as bbq tick fix or prevention.

But since I have it in the engine I wonder what other impact it has.

I do not expect anything negative. But there's ongoing debate on whether 5w20 impacts longevity of the engine and a lot of owners ho up to 5w30.

My overall opinion is that 5w20 with ceratec is better than 5w20 without one, so maybe it is not very concerning to run 5w20 with ceratec in the engine long term or even at track.

Having said that, I am not oil additive proponent and never added oil additive in engine previously.

But since I have it in the engine anyways... I wonder what everyone's though on this is.

@accel I did my 3rd oil change and added ceratec (2 bottles) to my GT along with PUP 5W-20 at 17K miles. Then I changed the oil around 23K miles and switched to PUP 5W-30. I am at 28K miles now and I do not have the BBQ tick anymore. I understand ceratec bottle states the effects of the additive should last around 30,000 miles so lets see how that holds up.

I have seen many owners use PUP 5W30 and be tick free. While I do not believe PUP 5W30 will get rid of the tick on its own initially if you already have it, I do think there is a correlation to using the PUP. I had several oil changes in a row using PUP 5W30 tick free. The two occasions when I used a different oil (and other than the stock Motorcraft) the tick appeared both times. Once with Mobil1 and again with Rotella.

I used PUP 5w30 and Ceratec on my last oil change for a 6,000mi OCI. Typewriter Tick came back immediately when I changed the oil. So, I added another 1/2 bottle of Ceratec to subdue the tick. I'm at the point where the next oil change I may not bother with Ceratec anymore, and just drive it, even if it ticks. I dunno, but the ticking thing doesn't seem to be hurting the car any.

I did not like the tick 'cause I just did not like the sound of it whether it was harmful or not.

I'll figure out the minimal amount of ceratec I need to add and will just keep adding it with each oil change.

Right now it is one bottle but I wonder if I can go even lower.

That's what I did. I started the car, and when the ticking started, I took a small graduated cylinder, and added 50ml at a time while the car was running. Took about half a bottle.
Even with half a bottle, the tick is still there very slight during warmup, but gone when hot. Now after 3,000mi, the tick is completely gone as the oil aged.

Also, I switched to QSUD now. Better sheer strength than PUP, and less expensive. Just damn good oil.
