Hi all,

I am not sure if this is a result of the questionable clutch replacement i had done, or because its gotten warm.
Ive noticed that if my 19 GT 6MT sits still for a while (think drive through) the center console gets VERY warm. On the uncomfortable side to touch in certain places. I can feel heat coming from the seam where the upper part of the console meets the lower. Its hot enough that putting my leg up against it, i can feel the heat from it. I can also feel the heat warming the cabin even with the AC on. It usually cools down some when moving but it never matches the rest of the interior temp. I know parts of it are supposed to get warm but this goes as far back as the parking brake indent.

I doubt this is normal, but then i thought the same thing about the 2-4k rattle.

That's not normal. Get it looked at.

Sounds like there is a heat shield they forgot to put back.

considering my shifter shakes now, (didnt before) it makes a metal on metal sound when it starts (didnt before) and they forgot to clear codes from the ECU when i got it back, sounds about right.

Yeah, I haven't felt any heat issues on my Bullitt, and it'd been around 105 outside lately. Haven't touched the console yet, which I'll do next time I remember out of curiosity now (ha ha), but it shouldn't be too bad. Sounds like whoever installed your shifted skipped a few steps :D.

There is a rubber boot that goes around the shifter and seals the hole in the sheet metal of the car. When I was installing my exhaust I noticed mine was not fully seated properly from underneath. I seated it and the heat in my console immediately went away. Guessing that's your problem.

Errr wtf?

Excessive heat in that area would be caused most likely by the exhaust. Heat shield is possible or possibly contacting a surface that’s creating a lot of heat transfer. Metal on metal COULD be a clogged catalytic converter but unlikely given the age of the vehicle. That would create a big hot spot though.

If it’s being generated by the trans, there could be an issue with your install (metal on metal is not good). How does it shift? My thoughts are low fluid or if the clutch or throw out bearing are engaging incorrectly it could be making a lot of heat.

When you’re stopped, do you keep your foot on the clutch or put the trans in neutral?

For what it’s worth, mine gets warm too when sitting in the heat. No air displacing the heat underneath basically bakes the trans tunnel.

I leave the car in neutral when im stopped. It shifts mostly fine though ive been hearing a noise when i shift at rpms above 4k. I plan to drop it off soon.
The metal on metal sounds is for about 15 seconds when it cold starts and has the higher RPM then it goes away.
