I have a JLT passenger side can I have been debating putting in my Mach 1, but I am not sure if it is defective or not. When I tighten it down, the rubber grommet can't be seen anymore...it is inside the threads. I have seen other people's can where it tightens against that rubber seal. Those of you that use them, what does tightened look like on yours? I am concerned about loss of vacuum on it. JLT sent me new seals but it didn't matter. The bottom image shows it fully tightened. Top is if I just tighten against the seal. Am I being too OCD about this?

I don't have JLTs, but I would think that if there was leakage, you'd hear air hissing from it.

The easiest answer is, if you are unsure, then replace the o-ring. They are considered a maintenance item that should be replaced occasionally (every other year depending?) and many catch cans come with a spare from the manufacturer. JLT should have replacements or the specs so that you can order one in the right diameter and thickness. Always make sure the ring/gasket is lubricated with a light coat of oil before snugging the lid down to prevent tearing or deforming. Good luck.

I replaced it with a new one from JLT...it still tightened over it where you don't even see it. I am trying to determine if that is normal.

Then as long as you are not losing any vacuum around the seal, you should be good to go. Appearances when sealed probably differ slightly from one can to another based on the original machining or the thickness of the o-ring used.

My catch can has that same small gap, i guess it is just the design. Throw it on the car and if a vacuum leak comes up you know it is that.

The o ring sits in a recess in the top half of the can and the bottom is designed to be screwed all the way on hand tight, so the o ring is captured and seals on the upper and lower halves. If you leave the lower half loose like in your pics it will leak and not hold a vacuum like it is designed to do.

well, put it back in but I just hate the way this thing sits in there. First you have to weave through those three wires so it sits on top of the electrical connector which bothers me. Then it bumps against the fluid reservoir...I think they put too long of a tube on it or something. It fit fine in my 2016, but when I sent it to them to get it revamped for the Mach 1...JLT/J&L screwed it up.

I had to have a new hose made to fit my 2021 GT catch cans to my 2022 Mach 1, because the positioning of the passenger-side can was slightly different. (Not JLT.)

The original could've worked, but it would've strained the plastic connectors too much.

Since I have the ecoboost engine mine sits on the driver's side shock tower where there are no wires or anything else in close proximity to it except the engine cover. Still a little tight to get hand in there to remove the lower half to empty but not bad as long as engine is cold.

Not having the V8 engine I cannot visualize just how tight it is or exactly where it has to be mounted on the right side with the battery junction box and other hoses and lines/reservoir all crammed in there. I feel your pain of it not being to your liking, I am OCD when it comes to things like that myself.
