Cat Backs vs Axle Backs

Looking for some advice, I'm interested in replacing the stock mufflers but I'm curious what the benefit of using catback verse axle-backs. The Ford Racing Borla catback info sheet claims 20 pounds saved but I'm not interested in the weight savings with the $445 increase for the catbacks.
Is there any other significant difference between the two?

Well the catbacks remove the resonator which is where the weight savings come from, the axlebacks leaves the resonator in the system which keeps it from being as free flowing as the catback system !!

Who knows how the exhaust is routed through that suitcase resonator under the car. It could be quite a bottleneck so running an axle back exhaust could be nothing more than a sound thing. 3Also the pipe diameter of the Cat back exhaust is larger than just an Axle back.. although I really doubt pipe dia is limiting much.

I also thought I read some where that the resonator also helps to reduce vibrations in the exhaust which supposedly prevents other components in the car from vibrating causing buzzing or other noises.

With my GT, no buzzing or resonance with my FRPP Touring catback except for a really low-level, low-frequency resonance at 1250 rpm in sixth gear and some throttle on, which almost never happens. Could be a different story with the Ecoboost.

As plans are at present, we'll be ordering an EcoBoost Premium in the spring. I'd like to get a cat-back exhaust system along with a CAI to let the engine breath a bit easier.

Although I'd like to have a more deep/mellow sound from the exhaust (and yes, I know there's only so much you can do for a 4 cycl), the main concern I have is to avoid having "any" drone inside the cabin! That is a must! So if any of you who have the Ecoboost already changed your exhaust to a cat-back and can honestly say you have no drone at all, please share the exhaust system you chose.

I have the Ford Racing catbacks(touring) have no drone not even a little bit !! Also have Airaid CAI and love the way car runs with unleashed tuning on car !!

Yep I had the Ford Racing Sport Catback installed the day after I took delivery three weeks ago and no there is no drone. It sounds great in my opinion. Install cost me $100 at a local exhaust shop

I'll more then likely have the 'Air Raid CAI' and the 'Ford Racing CatBack' ordered and on-hand even before the Mustang arrives. I'll place the order right after I submit my order for the EcoBoost.

I should also note that the guy who put on my exhaust took a good look at the downpipe as well and said that it looks somewhat restricted and that switching that out should improve sound and performance

It does confuse people, I had one guy at work think it was the V8 when I turned it on. Another guy I know who has the 2013 GT and would obviously know the difference said it sounds 'very aggressive'. If I didn't know the badges/engine options I definately wouldnt assume turbo 4.

I'm considering the downpipe but then I feel like I would definately need a tune so its at least $700-800 for dp and tune. I don't think I will change the CAI though
