This makes me super pissed honestly...
i am waiting for andoid auto (same concept as carplay),
i waited for the 2016 ONLY for the reason of Sync 3.
Problem is that Ford think they know best for us and dont want to allow Google/Apple to use the Sync3 full API. So we're stuck in the middle.
Ford need to understand that the future is already here, that Telenav is pure garbage and Android Auto/Apple Carplay is the way to go.

Let them have the API access and let us enjoy and decide for ourselves if we want to "consent for the level of access apple/google get from our car" and use our phones and not be subjected to the garbage telenav and broken voice commands that the sync offer.

This is seriously annoying.
the functionality is there, they just need to allow them to use it.

These companies never learn. They don't know how to learn. Run by folks who make decisions base only on the theory of "Its the way we always did it and we don't see a need to change". Just ask Kodak, IBM, or Montgomery Wards how that worked for them (BTW all but gone). Will a media center policy bring Ford down? Most likely not, so they don't care. I can guarantee they are no longer looking at 2016. Its done. Those papers are signed sealed and delivered. We will need to look for hacks if we want it to work the way we want.

Its not a matter of how easy it is. That's my point. Its a matter of corporate policy and who writes off on decisions and who pays for licensing and who is going to support the end product. These all consume resources. And as I stated the resources they use now are devoted to future products, it doesn't make corporate economic sense to spend any more money on something they already sold. Its much more invloved than flipping a switch.

Unless you take that MacRumors link tidbit at face value:

Getting a bit pissed myself, this seemed like a done deal before the end of the year over the summer, that's quickly shifted to 'not likely ever sucka'.

I don't think Ford will skip over Sync 3 being given Apple CarPlay in any way. Sync 3 has been shown to be compatible with Apple CarPlay in terms of the dash's capabilities, so I can't see Ford giving us the middle finger and dragging their heels until Sync 4. However, I do agree that it's likely a corporate argument right now since it would not be that difficult to support it in Ford cars currently. From the past few months on these forums and my situation with a recalled car (where I've been given little to no information), I've noticed Ford's main and perhaps only interest is profit margins and trying to eliminate their liability in situations where they should absolutely be held liable. It's sad to see, but it's been made evident in their decisions as of late.

They will, and i am sure that is a part of it. but with all due respect, with the amount of money we all pay (paid) for our car, they can take 400 instead of the full 700 to allow us to take "nav package" which will include the GPS without the crappy telenav software. its pure garbage IMO.

Soon as 2017 probably. They already are 2 years behind. CarPlay was released in 2014.

I have no faith whatsoever in Ford. Why? Because if you have software programming experience you know it's really easy and cut and dry to do an update for implementation. But they are working in the implementation since 2014 and they still don't have it ready. So yes, they are holding it back. Or maybe they are really bad at their jobs.

Pretty inefficient computer scientist that Ford have if you ask me.

I saw a Chevy SS at the San Diego C&C&D where the owner had gone full-Holden on the badges, including the airbag. It was total sex.

In all honesty, sync 3 is good enough with applink to not need ios or android integration like that.

Sucks that I had to buy navigation, but its more than sufficient for me.

I agree though. If tech for you is like meh, then yeah sync 3 is enough. But if you are all about tech its like having an iphone 6s and still be on 2g and OS1
