Hey everyone,

We're still working on the implementation of CarPlay. I can assure you all we're hard at work! I don't have the ETA, but I'll keep you posted.

Hi Whitney,

Thanks for taking the time to respond to crazy fanboys on an internet forum!

In all seriousness though I do hope that Ford is working on this and realizes how serious this option is for many buyers and potential buyers.

I am not familiar with the costs involved but as a business student about to finish my BS and begin graduate work I can only assume that Ford invested a great deal in the navigation SYNC 3 R&D and is of course looking to recoup costs. All fair, it's business however the Mac Rumors website is very disheartening after we've been effectively led on by Ford themselves to believe CarPlay was coming.

In the big picture it really should not be THE deciding factor. I love the new Mustang and I really want to purchase one, however the Camaro comes from the factory with this functionality built in and being a tech-savvy buyer this is of course a big deal for me. The more integration the better.

I will not pay $800 for simple navigation. If Ford is looking to charge a premium they need to look at the competition like Mini (BMW) like the heads-up display system to make buyers WANT this option. Otherwise I'll deal with having my phone stuck to my dash as long as I can still blutooth Spotify to the car stereo.

Again, I do thank you for your time and I understand that you're only able to share so much with us in the open. It means a lot having someone from Ford personally here dealing with customers. :)

I agree though. If tech for you is like meh, then yeah sync 3 is enough. But if you are all about tech its like having an iphone 6s and still be on 2g and OS1
Do you own a sync 3 vehicle?

It wouldnt be even that bad to charge MFT owners for a small fee to upgrade to carplay. Apple has done it with their OSX and no one complained.

I ordered the mustang in the hopes of getting Android Auto in the future. Sync 3 can accept OTAs. So Ford better be finishing it up. I really don't want to buy a phone dock and use my phone as a GPS.
So many other manufacturers have shipped their cars with Car Play and Android Auto. Ford really need to step it up. Companies like Apple and Google can provide much better UI/UX and can iterate much faster.

I just want Sync 2 to function with my iPhone 6s. I would like SOME functionality of the SYNC system in my $30k+ car.
Hey Genxer,

What issues are you having?

Thanks, AmerikanishesPferd and you're welcome! I'm happy to help where I can and share what I can. When we receive more information about CarPlay and Android Auto, I'll let you guys know. Hopefully that Camaro will stay on the lot where it belongs and you'll be able to tell me how much you love your new 'Stang. ;) LOL

Well let's hope so. I am still about a year out before eventual purchase but I am strongly considering a used 2016 when ready to buy. Having CarPlay would be icing on the cake for me but I'm not above a work around either :D

Unfortunately the Camaro has the upper hand with a less cluttered cockpit, CarPlay, and quad tip exhaust from factory but Mustang looks MUCH better for sure. Plus something about Mustang just DRAWS me to it. A Camaro would be just like "settling" for a product I wouldn't love.

The consumer will be fast to blame Ford for this but Apple's not giving this away for no cost and anyone who thinks so isn't seeing the big picture here.

Why do you think Apple Pay hasn't been introduced to a larger number of banks or services? Here in Europe it was deemed as not cost effective due to the portion of per-euro sales having to be paid to Apple to use their services. This on top of the fees most people pay to use credit card machines (card machines in general) means lots of transactions still happen here in cash, at least in Germany.

Ford is obviously recovering costs for designing the Sync 3 system before it begins paying Apple to use their products. It's business for sure but I am still pretty bummed after reading the article.

Well atleast we'll have Siri Eyes-Free :) (http://www.engadget.com/2015/12/03/ford-sync-siri-eyes-free/)

I think maybe part of the issue is why should they support it? You got Car Play, you got Android Auto... and I'm sure by 2018 there will be "Windows 10 for Cars" or some such thing as well. One standard could be implemented but supporting 2-3 different ones on top of your own system? Well...

I'd love to have it (I think!) but I'm not sure I see the use.

Oh and even here in Norway where almost NOBODY uses cash anymore (just fee-less debit cards) Apple Pay is going to have issues being implemented. Firstly, because competition from atleast 3 different mobile-payment systems, and secondly, because of the Apple-wall. Guess it's the same problem as for the car-audio system... too many options to support. Makes it costly to implement and support.
