So i did a quick search and couldnt see anything. My car has stock suspension and i recently went TT. the only other thing i changed was i went to the R888R, at freeway speeds when changing lanes the car feels like its floating or like driving on a soft sidewall slick. is this normal?> What should my tire pressure be? any help would be aprreciated. the tires hook up nice, but high speed gets scary.

I don't care what the general sentiment is towards R888R's, but I hate that tire with a passion! The hype is strong but I find it's maybe the least predicable tire I've ever used on track. Sorry.... I felt the need to rant for a moment :)

I take it zero issues prior to the tire change? Were you on Supersports before? Does changing driving modes while on the highway net a different suspension feel? I'm guessing 34-36 PSI for street use.

Fathouse installs quite a few of those tires on customers cars due to the straight line performance, they may be a better resource.

ya, was running the factory super sports zero issues, car felt like it was on rails. I went with the R888R as a few guys around here have had good success with them and i knew the Super Sports wouldnt handle the extra power. ive never had a drag radial feel this unstable. sport mode seemed to stabalize better than normal. But still not great.

Definitely sounds like the softer sidewall is the culprit. What about track mode, I wonder if that would help mask the problem even more? Maybe give cup 2’s or supercar 3’s a try on the next set.

What PSI are you running? If they do have drag sidewalls you may need to lower it from normal, or experiment with the pressure. I found with drag radials at high psi the car felt insanely crazy, at lower psi it felt alot more stable but I think its just that the tire is so soft that high PSI made the contact patch tiny.

im hoping this is my solution. they had them at 39psi hot. should i run them around 30?

Completely agree. Not a fan at all either.

I cant tell you how happy that makes me! SOOOOOOO many people are in love with that tire.
I get why, its hooks incredibly well. just a little disappointed in the handling side.

And (on my sons S197 car), they're loud as f$%&.

I'm lost on the topic though; seems the answer is in the question. You made one change that induced said result. Not like you threw a bunch of suspension mods on at one time and now don't know what did what. Revers the one change that induced the unfavorable result. I know tires are expensive. Maybe borrow a set wheels/tires from someone just to test out the thesis.

ive thought about that, except most of my buddies are running the R888Rs lol. i did drop pressure to around 32/33 and it seems to be much better. Thank yall for the input tho.

What am I missing here? Why in the hell would you use drag radials and their soft sidewalls?
